Clean it? Yep, I just did that to mine and it changed it to not new but not bad either. We keeping another year or so.
Otherwise, burn a couch and get a new one.

I worked 35 years in the upholstered furniture industry. Those guys got phased out 20 years ago. Nobody learned the entire process of completely covering a piece from start to finish. I know a guy but he’s in his 80’s and is very selective about what he does and who he deals with. He only takes return customers.

Sounds like the guy my wife found in Ridgeland that took almost a year. Still way better than the last guy with an “apprentice” that just recovered and left out replacing foam, horsehair, springs, etc.

Funny, my wife and I had a similar discussion a few weeks ago. She wants a new couch. I told her the couch we have is just fine, it just needs to be re-upholstered. She told me that nobody does that anymore and that people just put their couches on the street after about 5 years and simply go get a new one. Crazy.

My folks bought a couch around 1988 or 1989 that is still in the family. It has been recovered atleast 4 times that I can remember, maybe more - i used it in college and my first apartment when I got out - it went back to my folks when my wife informed me that either the couch goes or she goes.

It’s a bit of distance, but the Amish community outside of Pontotoc can do some nifty repair work, depending on what you’re needing. They re-caned several chairs for us. Of course, you can’t call them to ask them a question, so you’d have to take it up there to even see it’s an option.

Like he said Matt learned the trade for his father in law. Took over then he quit doing it. He’s done some stuff for my wife. Not fast but does great work. I’m pretty sure he build the couches for the new Golden girls set in the Lucky Rabbit. I know he’s done some things for the Home town people too.

Might try calling the fabric stores in Tupelo given they run in that world. Start with PHI.

Thanks for the advice and ideas. It’s a Flexsteel sofa so if we can find the “guy” I figured it will be worth it. My wife already knows the fabric she will use.
News Flash: she thinks that someone in Crawford can help, they even pickup and return (I hope)

I helped my grandfather doing this some as a kid (it was his "vocation" as a bivocational preacher) the work sucked, but I have fond memories of doing it with him. I would recommend a slip cover and if that doesn't work just get a new one that is lighter than flexsteel, no one needs to lift that thing.
