and Orpheus, I really mean that. I know how it feels to have other schools looking down on you, we've put up with that **** for years. But is it really accurate for Southern fans to go around beating their chest about Anthony Alford? Deandre Brown? Or any of the so called recruits they've beaten the big schools for (esp. MSU and UM)? I think it's been proven that it's usually extenuating circumstances that places those 4 and 5* guys at USM. Again, not hating, just pointing out the truth. It's just fact.....MSU isn't going to beat Alabama on an Alabama recruit either - just the natural hierarchy.<div>
</div><div>Let's be real here, if it wasn't for other teams slowplaying Alford because of the draft, he wouldn't be at Southern. Brown was a partial qualifier. Guys like Kendrick Hardy and Tracy Lampley didn't really get the same attention from MSU or UM. But hell if you read the Clarion Ledger you'd think that Southern just beat Notre Dame, Florida and USC for Alford.....which may technically be true on paper, but damn we all know isn't entirely accurate.</div><div>

No problem. It was a big deal getting the commitment. As I posted, it was more Scott Berry than Buckley why Alford chose USM. He also evidently built up a comfortable relationship with Ellis Johnson while Johnson was recruiting him for South Carolina. This young man by all accounts is a fine person with very good grades who has had a lot of obstacles in his short life. I just hope what is best for him is what happens. If the MLB draft does indeed offer him big dollars, I want him to do what is best for him. I am actually more excited for USM baseball than USM football if he does indeed come to USM. That is not to say he wouldn't have an impact on USM football, but he will not have the qb job handed to him. There is a very talented qb that will start next year as a rs freshman.

what is your take on him and the new OC coming in. I think I heard that he wasn't real excited (this was a couple weeks ago) about the choice for OC, I guess b/c of style. I live in H'burg btw and talk to a lot of big eagle fans.

No doubt Loyd had and probably still has concerns going from Fedora as HC to EJ as HC. There were rumors he was going to transfer out to Boise State, because Boise recruited him hard at the end of his recruitment. I have been told he loves USM and wants to play there though. I think he goes through the spring and if EJ is correct on the type of offense he is going to run with Bustle as OC, then he stays for sure. His dad has posted on a USM board he will stay and play. I guess we shall see. He is the real deal though, so I hope he stays to play for EJ.

Kid is a gamer. He seems like he has the ability to do a few special things. I was impressed that Southern was able to pull him from California. I also didn't understand why he wasn't so heavily recruited.

He played in a lower high school division is all I can figure. He broke California passing records like little Favre did in MS., but Loyd is now like 6'3", 200 lbs. unlike Favre. Like I said, at the end Boise came after him hard, but he stuck with his commitment. I have heard through the grapevine he really likes Southern Belles also. Don't blame him.

Never know with people now a days, but I doubt you guys would have to worry about losing him if the OC is as good as advertised.
