This feels right to me. Elite, not transcendent. I see him similarly to Jesse Mendez.

Melvin can win 4.
Mendez is 2 for 3 with a very solid chance of finishing with the exact same results Spencer had.
If Bo matches that, that is pretty damn close to “transcendent”…3x champs and 4x AA’s don’t exactly grow on trees, especially when they don’t get an extra covid year!

Is that $# true? I heard $500k a year so 2-2.5mil
Probly not. Either way there are 0 wrestlers worth the figures that have been paid out the last several years. Bo with his social media presence is has the highest valuation I’d guess and it’s Probly low 5 figures. Anyone with marketing experience care to take a guess what the accountants will say the top tier wrestlers are worth?

You are worth whatever someone will pay you
I understand the concept except college athletics is not a competitive market like pro sports. Which they are attempting to act like they are. There is no profitability and they are mostly taxpayer subsidized.

I enjoy that you posted VERY strong opinions on the matter, and then you revealed you are clueless in the last sentence. LOL

Touché. What I know is there are 0 wrestling programs that are in the black. So my mind logically doesn’t see any wrestler worth 250k per year let alone 6 figures. If wrestlers are doing camps and appearances for fees ok. Up front guarantees idk. Feel free to educate me. I’d love to know how it works

Then Bassett was an even bigger than I thought. From what some on here said, he was about to get the 1st of 5 big payments from us right before he dumped us. If I’m right, with him decommiting, wouldn’t his next deal have to go through the clearing house, where his deal with us was not subject to that. Between V tech not having the ability to offer what Iowa, PSU, OSU, or even tOSU can offer, and then having that smaller amount scrutinized by the clearing house, they must have sacrificed enough money to set them up for years if invested right, just out of jealousy of Jax. Good luck selling your merchandise to a much smaller and less passionate fan base than ours.😂😂😂😂. just for the fun of it, I looked up V tech average home attendance, and it only 2,254, and that is with free admission. What would it be if fans had to pay what we do for wrestling tickets, 200 people?

Im not down with the Bo hate. My son met him several times and he was very cool and gracious. He coached HWA practice. It didnt work out for whatever reason and it is what it is. He's a great kid, disappointed he isn't a hawk but wish him the best.

Yes many kids have been. With the 250 mile rule (#davidrules) being eliminated now anyone can come and train. Iowa should do well with the class of 2027
Appreciate the insight Corby! Us Iowa fans are dying for a good class after the recent years of disappointment (but honestly, a class with Leo D., Harvey Ludington, and CJ Torress is solid. Just need more horses in the stable.).

Hoping that we make a major splash. Again, appreciate the insight and nuggets you choose to tell, insider information on this new forum seems scarce. Which I understand.

That 25 class was looking meager with just DeLuca until the late flips of Ludington and Torres, I'm still holding out hope we get some similar late flips with the 26 class. BTW I liked Torres before he even flipped to us, I thought he was under rated.

I'm less concerned with counting stats when it comes to labelling people transcendent v. elite. My main metric is "are you a world title contender (or close) while still in college?"

I don't consider Mendez that and I don't see that in Bo's future. For example, Mesenbrink and Mendez will likely finish with the same amount of titles, but I think Mesenbrink is on a different level. Just a personal opinion, and not a hill I'm willing to die on.

Anyone have any knowledge as to whether we’re still working for ‘26 flips or are we entirely focused on ‘27 at this point?

I will say it again Bo will never be as good as his dad thinks he is. He 19 already correct. Starting to get his man Muscles. Dominating high school is cool when you are 18 and under. Iowa was a good fit for him and his style. He’s a grinder with a motor a lot like Metcalf. No where near the wrestler metcalf was. He will be successful but top 6 with 1 ship is my prediction. 3 to 4 schools also.
I don't completely disagree but if you go back and watch some Metcalf matches from high school and early college even he didn't have a pace or versatility of attacks like Bassett does. If Bassett is able to achieve elite college level strength, he's going to be really tough to beat. Right now he has elite high school strength but as we've seen when he competes against senior level guys, he's not able to horse them around the way he does high school guys. If/when he gets there strength wise, look out. I think messenbrink level is a realistic comp and ceiling.

I get it. Just from a purely recruiting a college wrestler perspective, 3x champ, 4x AA is about as transcendent as it can reasonably get.

Cory Clark would be more in line with a college level comparison based on that metric. What he accomplished was absolutely elite, but far from transcendent…

College wrestling budgets and NIL have nothing to do with each other. Start there. It's all about passion + money and there's enough of both at the big programs. Also, $250K is 6 figures. ;)

You asked for knowledge. I have none, per usual. But logic says they are still talking to 2026 guys. Heck, Torres was a 2025 guy that they flipped in May, 2025.

Didn’t he have a 5 million deal over 5 years? I can see why Tom felt insulted about paying for travel.
Honestly, whats some flight expenses and some hotels for a few weeks when you are already putting out 5 million, to land 3 recruits. To me Bo isnt the big miss here, Melvin is. But why you are willing to drop 5 mil on them and then stop on some flights is ridiculous
