David Calkins Jr. is the answer, BTW - which makes total sense.
A Brentwood, CA prep - Calkins (the younger brother of current Iowa women's wrestler Sam Calkins) - earned a bronze medal at this year's U17 Worlds in Greco-Roman (92kg).
He was a 2024 Fargo Greco champ (16U) and 2023 runner up (16U) - also finishing top five in freestyle both years.
Does it feel like the wrestling program could use some media/hype support? World bronze medalist on campus, find out on Sunday. They need to be feeding the information to Tanner ahead of time, generate some buzz. I get it is out of their comfort zone it you got to break some eggs to get a good omelet.
Try finding out information from penn st or Oklahoma st . It's a full time job
. Iowa is no different. Iowa sells out for every dual. What would the hype gain them? On social media 3 teams get talked about and it's the 3 already mentioned. The juice isn't worth the squeezeI love this, Recruiting Kenny and his teammate! Would help us with our chances with Kenny and this gives us 2 great wrestlers in weights that we need!
Also, the Kenny’s are close with Bachmanns, so this will help us swing Bachmanns (hopefully).
Bachmman does look bigger through pictures and I could see him at 165. He would fit perfectly in the lineup! Just nervous with MIZZOU and tOSU… those teams are the others that I can see him going to. Let’s see how he enjoyed the visit and the relationships our coaches and current wrestlers built with the recruits.

Duffy is currently #7 Flo and #12 matscouts at 144 he's not being recruited because he's Kenny teammate
While I certainly wouldn't say no to any information/access Iowa is willing to provide, don't worry about me haha.
We're over here working to keep building out the wrestling coverage at Hawkeye Report - and the recruiting/inside-the-program type stuff is something that's gotta be earned, IMO.
Along with Ross Bartachek over at IA Wrestle, I feel like we've done a decent job covering the group Iowa had visiting this weekend - even if it took some coordinated efforts on our part to ID a few of the guys from yesterday's photos (again, provided by HR's Dennis Scheidt).
So yeah, we're gonna keep working at it!
Seems like he's been a bit of a late bloomer, too.
Went DNP (113), DNP (120), 5th (132) at the New Jersey State Championships the past three years - then took 6th at Fargo this summer all the way up at 144.

Had a couple nice wins at Fargo, teched Cornell recruit Verrette in 34 seconds and he beat #13 Barrows, but ended losing 3 straight to Clinton Shepherd, Michael Romero and Haakon Peterson by Tf, Tf, and Pin. I imagine Borge's ranking will go up after his Super 32 results
Borge is a significantly better prospect than Duffy. I think Flo updates their Big Board more often than their weight rankings. You'll see a lot of quirky things with kids being high on the BB and not that high on their weight class ranking. And I understand that the weight class rankings include multiple year classes.
I didn’t see either in the top 100 of big board 2026. The big kid sounds like a Greco specialist like Otto Black. Could provide solid depth at 197. You never know, somehow Buchanan wasn’t in the top 100 in high school.

My opinion is that some recruits like the hype--they like to be a big deal. Iowa can use ANY edge they can get-- it doesn't take much juice to squeeze out some creative social media activity .

It's actually the other way around.
The weight-by-weight (incl. Pound-for-Pound) rankings get updated pretty regularly, whereas the Big Board for each class gets re-done far less often.
Flo's last 2027 Big Board update was on April 11th.
Meanwhile, the weight class/P4P rankings for the 2025-26 high school season have been updated five times since September 11th - the latest being on 10/11.
Calkins actually has a much more extensive folkstyle/freestyle background than Black did - whom I believe may've taken an entire year or two off from competing for his high school in Colorado to train Greco.
Calkins has finished 8th/7th/R12 in three trips to the single-class California state tournament (all three times at 190lbs or above). And he's also twice placed top five at Fargo in freestyle.
Not calling him a can't miss prospect by any means, but there are some elements of his career to date that make me wonder if his ceiling is quite a bit higher than his current recruiting profile might suggest.
No idea how many takes it took (probably a lot), but in the last slide of Duffy's Instagram post (see above) he actually hits a three from the Caitlin Clark logo in Carver.
