Maybe a switch to tight end would be good if he has decent hands. Dallas Clark was a walk on linebacker buried on the depth chart, switched to tight end and became a star in the NFL.
He had 369 yards receiving and 11 T.D.'s his Junior year as a tight end at Iowa City High. He was the USA Today Iowa Male Athlete of the Year for reasons other than Wrestling.

So what do you guys think about Shamus Regan? When will he transfer to LHP and we gain more data about him?

With us getting Shamus, this makes me to believe that some of the recruits will be heavier in weight then we what we expect.

What if one of the Bachmann Bros can get up to 174? Or is this wishful thinking ?

I have no inside info so this is purely a guess at this point. But this is how I see our 27 recruits projecting weight wise .

Paul kenny-133/141
Borge-149
Youngblut-141/49
Bachmann- 157/165
Amato-157/165
Shamus Reagan-133

now obviously if Amato or bachmann could ever grow into a 174 pounder that would get all these guys in the lineup. How feasible that is, I’m not sure at this point.

It would be pretty cool if the wrestling recruiting thread discussed wrestling recruiting & not football. I mean I love football but we have a thousand threads to talk about it. Lets please get back on track. I know there isn't a ton going on with recruiting or at least anything we know about but still... anyhow hopefully the staff is working hard on Heeg, Staples, O Ferrell or Fernandez

Are you implying that every guy on team had same plan? I don’t believe that. I would assume that these S&C coaches are all smart enough to adjust workouts for each athlete. It wouldn’t be difficult.
No, I’m saying we should expect someone who is trying to add bulk to every person on a roster to be better at adding bulk than someone who doesn’t want most of their athletes to add bulk.

There isn’t a doubt in my mind Doyle would’ve had Ben at 250+and looking like the Incredible Hulk long before this season started. BK absolutely would’ve benefitted tremendously if he were still here to help with these situations.

Herein lies a problem. Why does Iowa wrestling need to depend on the football S&C guy for this stuff? Whomever is in that role for wrestling should have the ability to handle it.

There are outliers, and Ben is most certainly one of them. Doyle was a mad scientist in this this department. Look what he did for Ereksen, as mentioned above, and Chad Beatty in one off-season. BK would’ve been a dream project for Coach Doyle.

This is ancient history. 15+ years ago.

Next time I see Chad, I'll let him know he is ancient.

Does anyone really believe that Doyle is/was the only guy on the planet who knew/knows how to add good weight to athlete's??

I always amazed at anyone who is offended by any blend of another sport in a wrestling thread. My guess is its a bunch of little guys who only wrestled lightweight and are 5'5.

How dare we discuss a 2 way player randomly in a thread. Be careful what you wish for as I'd rather this forum be like this than some control freak like Tom McAndrew going crazy about going off topic in a thread.

He will be 39 in about a month. So yeah…go ahead. Also PSU has won 12 titles to 1 since he graduated. Thats ancient.

Anyway, I’m basically asking the same thing as you. Why is it everyone cries “Doyle” in this scenario? Nevermind he was football S&C and he’s been gone for 5 years.

Who is the money behind Virginia Tech?
I’ve asked this a few ways-

the new NIL rules are supposed to eliminate “pay to play.” Every NIL deal goes through a clearinghouse and ensures the deal is legitimate and is given in return for services- like the local car dealership pays high 4 figures for placement in a commercial. A niche sport like wrestling can’t command more on the open market. This is why we think Bassett gave up up to $5M when he decommitted from Iowa- any future deal would be very low 5 figures at most.

I am clearly no expert but I’m thinking future big paydays will come from revenue sharing. Maybe that allows for up to $200k/year/athlete, but that comes from the school, not from a billionaire donor.

The only answer I’ve received is something along the lines of, “that’s quaint, you think those schools and their billionaires aren’t cheating, haha.”

So my response would be, there is no money behind VA Tech or any of the other schools for Knox. But they might be promising revenue sharing, which any big public school could come up with. Thoughts?

tOSU has money. Even if Bassett talks enough recruits into Vtech to make them solid #3, he’s still a fool for walking away from that money with the biggest fan base and coaches perfect for his style and attitude. It was lose lose for both sides.

1 year of a grad transfer at 33 is better than paying 7 figures for Knox, when we already have Paul Kenny and other quality lightweights coming in the next year.
That’s a big assumption that he’s for sure gonna be a 33 and that he’ll be ready to go as a true freshman. NIL is crazy but the type of guys who are getting paid are guys like Anthony Knox #2 in his class and has had success throughout his whole highschool career against the best competition. Paying big on a guy who has 4 years seems a lot more promising than paying a lot of money on a 1 year rental.

With Bassett, miller, Siedel, and a few other studs already on board, where does Vtech get the money? Maybe school has pledged a lot of rev share to wrestling??

And a one year grad transfer next year would be the bridge to a true freshman Kenny the following year, assuming he would be ready to go.
Who knows who even will be available especially if we’re looking specifically for grad transfers. We’re assuming Kenny is a 33 and ready to go as a true freshman. The only Jr’s ranked top 10 at 33 are Evan frost and Jacob van Dee and they’re not coming. Evan Mougalin is ranked 13 and is the only other junior in the top 20 and he’s a Penn guy so he’s not coming. Anyone beyond that wouldn’t even be worth looking into at this point
