I don't pretend to be a recruiting whiz or anything because I usually don't follow it till it comes closer to signing day. Anyways, my question is this: Are we doing ok right now? I see we're at about 53 in the nation..is this normal or bad?

I think we're doing slightly below average right now. Our ranking will go up as soon as some of our commits are evaluated, but as of right now, we're not world beaters. This class depends on Newton, Carmon, and Wells, though (and I personally think we land all 3)

we are doing OK. I'm not real worried about our ranking or anything like that. I think a lot of HS players wanted to see what Mullen was all about before going ahead and making their decision.

There are some fairly big names still out there like Newton, of course, Matthew Wells, Damien Robinson, Carlos Thompson, Jay Highes, and Vincent Sanders among others.

but now I'm not sure due to hearing from someone semi close to the situation that Newton's father loves Mullen but Newton himself hates him. This might be untrue but the guy who told me this seemed very sure about it. Regardless, I just hope Mullen pulls in a top 30 class. That would make me happy.

Bolden and Ballard are easily 3 stars, and maybe at least one of them a 4 star. It's no accident they are the leading rusher and receiver respectively in JUCO. Jamerson should end up a 3 star, and I think Malcolm Johnson, Brandon Hill, and Jameon Lewis will end up as 3 stars too. Rajion Neal is a 4 star on Rivals, so I'm sure he has a chance to be one on Scout. But it definitely will come down to the big playmakers in the state and Cam Newton. Robert Johnson, Vincent Sanders, and Matthew Wells are the big 3 in my opinion that we need as far as playmakers go. Damien probably goes to Bama or LSU, and it just always seems that guys like Carmon don't come here, so I'm gonna say he goes to Ole Miss. But I think our class right now is a little underrated, and that once some of these guys from smaller schools get evaluated you will see our current class move up a decent amount.

Two QB system would still be an improvement.

Newton to me is sort of similar to Renardo Sidney for basketball- without the legal baggage of course. I think we're going to be fine at QB regardless of if he comes or not, but if we do get Newton, we have a real chance to be special. Think about 2011 when we don't have a ridiculous schedule and all of the Fr. and So. we are playing now are Jr's and Srs.

That said, all I want for Christmas is Cameron Newton.

Especially, the bolded. Add James Carmon and I'm good for New Year's and my birthday too.

but it has the chance to be very solid.

There are some big names that we appear to have a better than average chance of signing. They are:

1. Wayne Dorsey, 5star
2. Damien Robinson, 4 star
3. Carlos Thompson, 4 star
4. Matt Wells, 4 star
5. Vincent Sanders, 4 star
6. James Carmon, 4 star
7. Cam Newton, 4 star

You could argue that we lead for all 7. Bama has cooled on Robinson for whatever reason. Land 5 of those 7 plus the fact that 3 commits are currently 1 star because they haven't been rated yet and you will see our rankings shoot up.

From a needs standpoint we really need a couple of LB's and we look pretty good with Bohanna and Hughes. We also need a big time Tackle to redshirt and groom to replace Sherrod (hopefully Robinson). And of course one or two QB's. Brunetti would be a great prospect if we could somehow swing him and Newton is critical. The last big need is a juco Corner, but it doesn't appear we are on anyone right now that would be in the same class with a Fred Smoot or even a Jasper O'quinn-who was a pretty solid corner.

of evaluating JUCOs, you might not want to put a lot of stock in "rankings." Hopefully Mullen is going load up with 8 or more JUCOs.
