Recruiting Rankings since 2002

So I spent a couple minutes going through recent Nebraska Rivals recruiting rankings. Recruiting rankings don't always tell the whole story, but in general, successful teams have a higher team ranking.

(My personal preference is evaluating a recruits quality offers. Quantity of offers is not necessarily indicative of talent but when the BIG boys line up for a kid, he's gotta be something special. And there are always the Ameer Abdullah exceptions who seem to be undervalued because college teams have them slotted for a position other than the one the recruit wishes to play.)

Ouch! That doesn't sound very impressive, but I bet it does somewhat represent where we have finished each year in the rankings on average.

Like big red22 said, 2011 was a ghost year as many left or didn't pan out.

Even the #5 class in 2005 didn't work out so well as a 5-7 record in 2007 indicates.

28th in Points, 28th in Average Star Ranking!

I would like to see the 5th yr of the recruiting class on campus averages. Can any of you analysts pull that. So 2011 as an example that would be completing this yr, what would it be rated based on who finished.

Take the after getting canned classes out and Cally clocks in at roughly ranked 13 per class and BP 23.

I agree but the 2005 class had a lot to do with the 2009 season, which arguably one of the best NU team in many years. Did it live up to its billings? Nope. Too many egos and to many redundancies in positions.IMO Probably the best recruiting class since 2002 was the 2007 class. That class had a ton of all conference and NFL talent. It also played for a couple of conference titles and its #13 recruiting ranking reflects its success.

An old timer once told me on RSS that the talent gap between the top 15 recruiting classes and classes ranked from 16-25 is extremely big. I still believe in that man's theory as its proven itself over and over again.

What I really want to know is what kind of an impact did each class really have? After all the washouts, transfers, kids who couldn't make the grade, etc how well does that final ranking hold up?

I wonder because there's something to be said about getting quality players both on and off the field. Given Riley's character it seems to me he's recruiting quality both on and off the field. Those #5 and #15 ranked teams look great on paper, but what impact did they really have? We don't know how this class is going to shake out, but if the character is there along with the athletic ability then there's a good chance a 20-25 ranked class has a greater impact than a 15th ranked class.
