Recruiting tea leaves seem a little strange right now.

Some folks may be able to add some clarity to the leaves, but here is my guess on what may happen in the near future. Ulric Jones is going to decide between the bears and us in a few days. I think he will choose the bears and they will declare a great and holy victory over the great satan Mullen. But the tea leaves have been saying for over a month that Ulric's commitment may not be attractive to our coaches. Not to cause a panic, but Jake Thomas has gone to N.C. in search of an offer and didn't get it. He then went to Stanford and apparently didn't get it. I understand wanting to have options, but Jake obviously is no Deon Mix when it comes to being TrueMaroon at this point (of course yancy says deon isn't true maroon either). Kailo Moore appears to be a stalking victim and his crazy *** stalkers have been known to wear down some of their victims. Will Kailo be able to resist a case of the Stockholm syndrome? I have always said that the bears are so delusional and sneaky that making sense of what they do and say is pointless, so they will always throw a lot of mud in the water that will keep things cloudy until signing day. Anyone else have anything to add?

His offers are MSU, USM and a possible Bears one. Like you said, he trips to UNC and Stanford and doesn't receive offers. He has had one from us for around a year. I've heard rumors that he's holding out for a Bama offer, but I doubt he gets that.

Some of these guys want to take their OV's it doesn't mean much.

No need to worry about Mix either he's been our best recruiter at camps. He's alsoa recruitn Conner and Shumpert hard. We'll probably get a number of commits right before HS football starts. A number of our top targets plan on commiting soon.

Don't get caught up in what Yancey says, in fact just ignore him.

MSU coaches weren't thrilled with his camp performance, and if he screws around too long he may not have a spot.

Our brand is continuing to be more and more attractive. Have to love where we stand right now, especially with MS prospects and then being able to fill the gaps with quality guys from close by. I mean, we got one of the best players from South Panola committed to us right now, and a former Ole Miss commitment. Then we have what some have deemed the next Tim Tebow committed in Cord Sandberg. Getting him to campus is infinitely more important than any other recruit, in my opinion.<div>
</div><div>I encourage all of you not to get caught up in the drama caused by the Yancy Porters of the world. The Ole Miss beat writers and recruitniks are, in my view, more biased and more reckless in their reporting (in particular, within the State of MS) due to their entitled attitude. They stir alot more up than the State guys do. It's literally all they have at this point.</div>

at Columbus. That injury limited him severely and much of the reason why he struggled at the camp. Thomas has a spot no matter what all the way up until signing day.

I think Thomas wants to go out of state, his recent efforts have made that pretty clear. Stanford is a long ways off and Chapel Hill isn't close either. I think he has other interests that are motivating him outside the realm of football. Listen to his DD interview. If he wanted to be at MSU, he would have committed already. However, in the end, I think we will remain his best option.

Kalio wants to be a Dawg- he is getting lots of pressure to go to Oxford- but Mama wants him in Starkville also. She tells him to do what is best for him and not to worry about everybody else. If he sticks to her advice- he will stay with us

Big Jake has become a big mystery. His stock is dropping, and he is acting as if its rising.

It's July and people need to chill on recruiting. Our class is coming along nicely.

he just seems to be enamored bythe other two places he's visited. There is nothing wrong with that, but since the SEC is the football conference and we're down the road, the choice should be easy right? Especially since he is from here. I justget the feeling that he'd like to get away, if he can.ButIcertainly hope we get him.I'd liketo getFraser also, the South Fla commit.

that ya'll worry way too much about Yancy. Hell, I'm an OM guy and Spirit subscriber and yet don't pay as much attention to what he says as you do.

One thing that he has been constant on though is Deon Mix. His stance has always been that the staff didn't rate him ahead of others. I don't know if its true but that's been the position. Maybe Mix told Freeze "no" early on and the low eval is BS. Who knows, but I would think Mix is solid with State, even if Yancy has or will ever insinuate that OM could pull him in if they decided to.

Going forward, from what I gather, HF is working on Moore, Shumpert, and Connor as far as MS kids go. Personally, I think OM gets one of the three...just don't have any idea which one.

If we are willing to take him, why would UNC decline him?

I'd say MSU is in better shape talent-wise than UNC. Now that Andrew Luck has departed, it remains to be seen how good in the remaining talent at Stanford.</p>

You guys want them- as you should. Our fanbase needs to quit being so neurotic and realize it's never over in recruiting until the letter is faxed in. He is committed to us, we are going to have a good season, and look to be putting together another good class for February.

Worrying about it right now is pointless

We're dealing with 17 and 18the year olds.

As for Mix it seems like he is also really good friends with Market. I just can't see him decommiting unless something major happens like a coaching change.

This is getting ridiculous. A guy I knowjust told me (if true) that UM got a commit from 3* Georgia running back Peyton Barber. Chose UM over Arizona State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Purdue, UCLA and Vandy. Is this high school rookie coach that good or is this more smoke and mirrors from Oxford? Good grief!

by and large, all this 'success' recruiting out of state that Ole Miss is having is, in fact, smoke and mirrors. Always has been. Do you really think they are going in and beating these schools for recruits? A Georgia kid isn't picking Ole Miss over Georgia Tech/Clemson if he has offers from both. Let's get real.

don't know about the kid's other offers. I guess we'll know in a couple of years when we can see how good he is, if he indeed signs with OM.

They are like MSU fans at the end of Jackie's career. We had back to back top 15 classes and that's all MSU fans would talk about. "We just got a top 15 class!!!!!" 3-8. We just had a top 15 class again!!!! 2-10 and the bottom falls out. The Rebel fans know that they will never compete for a national title, but they can see their name listed among top programs in recruiting rankings. I will say this about Ole Miss, they can commit about 12 running backs and keep their top RB targets believing that they can come in and compete for playing time. I swear that they have signed about 20 running backs in the last 3 years. You would think that Kailo and Shumpert would look at their class and say, "damn, they have like 15 guys signed at my position, regardless of what they are telling me."

Or else you didn't realize that you said "3 star RB". Who gives a **** if they committed a guy like that? It's a long way til signing day, and 3 star RB's are a dime a dozen. Some of you people should chill the 17 out. For all you know, they went after this kid bc they know Kailo is going to State.....see how easy I can make this commit seem like a great thing for us? It's pointless to get worked up over recruits right now, especially 3 star and lower.

stanford signed a couple highly rated (as in a 5 star) OT last year. The thing with Thomas is, he isn't an unknown commodity like Chris Jones was this year. I thought it kind of strange that N.C. didn't offer him especially considering the N.C. coaching staff knows him. I tend to agree with what Coach34 said.

I swear you get more stupid as the days go by. Jake Thomas is exploring his education choices and I can't blame him for that. You have it all wrong with your "cocky Jake" remark. He's got his head on right and knows
that football will provide him that quality education. Since you know nothing about him and his family you need to go suck on another gorged ****.

What he does is his +$%%#*! business and no washed up private school coach is going to change that with stupid *** remarks like yours. Sometimes people have other priorities when it comes to signing a piece of paper.

Jake can do whatever he wants, take all the trips he wants, and wait till signing day for all I care- that still doesnt change the fact that his stock has dropped some and we may move on to other targets if he doesnt decide before too long. We havent done so yet, but we wont wait around forever.

In your opinion, which situation should Moore and Shumpert fear more in regards to playing time... OM because they're signing a lot of guys who play the same position in my class, who I will have an equal chance when it comes to experience and S&C development, or MSU, where according to y'all, there are 3 balis made underclassmen who are all studs already in the system with more experience?

We can go back and forth on which is a more ideal situation for a star RB, but in reality I don't think either of those two are going to be much worried about a depth chart in making their decision. The people using the depth chart as reasoning are the same ones that "couldn't believe Cam Newton would go to Auburn where they have 4 returning qbs." Stars(with the potential of those two) don't worry about depth charts in their decision-making process.

Would love to see Perkins have good season(s) and become our 9th straight RB drafted. 1991 was the last time State didn't have a(drafted) NFL RB on campus.

I would not sign with a school who has signed like 10 running backs over the past couple of years. Its like the Houston Nutt saying of how he was going to let everyone run the Wild Rebel. I read about 10 articles from 10 different players and they were all told that they would run that formation. I wonder if any of them actually read their own interviews and the other ones being recruited at the same position. I know that I would. If I was Moore and Shumpert, I would look at Mullen's ability to get the ball in hands of his playmakers and how our offense is light years better than it's ever been. He has won back to back bowl games at little ole Misipi state. The jury is out on Freeze and y'all will be bad next year. Freeze has playing time to sell. Kids don't give a damn if he won at ASU. Most kids don't have a clue about that program.

Coaching......75%
Intestinal fortitude of the players........10%
Recruiting your needs................10%
Ratings of the recruits.......5%

I'm sorry. Coaches rarely if ever get fired for failing to bring in talent. They get fired because everyone knows someone could do better with the talent they have. Another problem is that coaches just dont protect and get kids that are essential to their needs.

Take Croom for example. His choice of offense based on our talent stunk. His players were not tough.

Mullen required effort from day one. His offense wasnt entirely best for the talent we had, but he had enough sense to use what he had to their abilities. He has brought in the wide receivers and the speed on defense to hang on until he gets the right offensive mix. </p>

You really like the number 10 don't you, especially when you're using it as a made up number
