Choe Bryant is trending towards UCLA. It looks like another linebacker is going to bite the dust.

Is Dewitt responsible for bringing in any recruits?

Besides Mike Rozier and Lavonte David...who else has been a successful Juco player for the huskers? It seems as though Frost is batting zero on that front.

My concern is what we sign at LB.
Who that is not committed should we be excited about? I am familiar with Omar, anyone else?
Starting to offer a lot of jucos all of a sudden

We are scrambling.

JUCO offers always tend to be near the end of the season for all colleges that recruit them. Been that way for ages, even when I was in high school.

Dejon Gomes and Demorrio Williams are a few others that come to mind.

Recruits also worry about whether the coaching staff that recruited them might not survive another 2-3 down years.

And I imagine kids like the idea of guaranteed bowl games in the middle of winter.

Couple of DTs during the Cally years that were ok. Can't remember the names right now
Some OL like Yoshi Hardrick, Matt Slauson and Rickie Henry would help right now. They weren’t superstars, but were all JUCO’s that are probably better than anyone we have right now.

How hard is this garbage to sell to top recruits moving forward. All this about the future looks like a hard sell. Along with "no fear of failure"

Maybe. I'm starting to wonder if it matters right now. I would gladly take most of the players for the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits over Nebraska players, because they're football players.

Nebraska needs to bring in football players that fit the schemes we run and the identity and culture we believe in. I'm over divas and stars. That's not why Nebraska won national championships anyway. We recruit guys that want to be here. That are excited to be here.

If someone decommits, that's good.

From what I have seen, there is a pretty big difference in how Alabama's freshmen look and how ours look. Just going off the ole eyeball test.

From what I've seen there is a massive difference in how Alabama's non freshman look and ours.... so what's your point?

What guys should we be excited about? I'm tired of being negative. My hangover is gone from that ****** game.

Manning?

Who else?

Kaden Johnson still technically on the board. That’d be huge, but I’m not holding my breath.

Got to get more LBs for sure and have been striking out left and right.

Dont let facts get in the way of Harry whining and moaning and bitching.

Yeah, I'm sure he's going to be making a lot of 20 hour drives home to Florida from Syracuse. I'm sure being only 1300 miles away from home instead of 1500 made all the difference. It can't be that he didn't connect well with our coaches. It must have been all about location:

However, he felt Syracuse was genuine and pointed first to the bond Monroe has built with him over the last two-and-a-half years. Monroe has “never lied to me,” Kinsler said, and extended a scholarship offer to the edge rusher last April.

Kinsler took official visits to Louisville, on the first weekend of October, and Nebraska, last weekend. He said he enjoyed touring the Cornhuskers facilities, but didn’t feel the same comfortability that he did in Syracuse.

Um no. Now is when you're getting to know how they're year has gone and if they're making some academic progress in to getting eligible. There are some exceptions to that for kids you know are on track in their second year at a JUCO. It's also true that you've seen enough of what you have in practice and games to know what you need. I don't think there's any team in the country who would turn down a stud OLB /pass rusher.

Yeah but the dudes we are scrambling for aren't stud OLB / pass rushers. We're rummaging through the bargain bin at both LB spots now.

We're still in on Johnson and Groce. My gut says Alabama told Groce to wait to sign and maybe they would offer him later if they have room. Johnson I don't feel good about just because of our on field performance. Dewitt's bout with cancer was probably detrimental to our linebacker recruiting. It is also true that recruits might look at what we signed at linebacker last year. We signed a very good linebacker class last year and kids notice that. EVERY team in the country is after the top OLB/pass rusher types. Ohio State, Bama and Clemson skim the cream and then the rest of the country has to look for kids they can develop. Maybe find a high school safety who has the frame to play OLB. We have a kid like that in the freshman class that I'll be shocked if he doesn't grow in to an OLB. One thing I DO NOT like is that it appears that we don't seem to be recruiting Texas much any more.

I will note that Bo Pelini didn't want to offer LaVonte David. You can find diamonds in the rough at the JUCO level sometimes.

The line recruiting has looked good.

It starts there. Need to win in the trenches.
Wish we had some LBs, though.

This topic should hold until the kids are signed. FWIW...we have silent commits.
Ah yes, the mysterious "silent commits". The secret deal. No announcement will be made because the competition is fierce and the stakes are too high. Or it could be a DT from O'Neill who just needs to get his grades in order. Stay tuned!

We need a couple of linebacker recruits for depth at this point unless we could find a JUCO OLB who was ready to play. I think were loaded in that freshman class. I don't know if they'll supplant Honas, Tannor and Miller right away, but they're going to play and take a run at starting roles. I guess the good news is that we have 4 guys who are coming back next year who have played a ton. The bad news is that we have 3 of those guys coming back who haven't been very good this year. Nelson, Henrich and Snodgrass will all play. There could be another freshman who might crack the 2 deep. OLB is the biggest question mark. Personally I think Snodgrass could play there but we'll see. I think Wright might end up as a hybrid OLB too. He's a very big safety.

Lavonte David was a 4* coming out of JUCO, not really a diamond in the rough.

Groce and Johnson are longshots. Not impossible, but very unlikely.

LaVonte may have been a 4 star but he was too small according to Bo and he didn't want to offer him. Fortunately somebody on his staff convinced him. I can not for the life of me remember who that was right now.

On to plan C and D at key spots. Ruud and Dewitt seem to be dead weight on the trail.
DeWitt much more so than Ruud. Ruud has a nice haul last year, DeWitt has done basically nothing on the trail since he arrived.

Jeff Sims (then Ft Scott head coach) begged Bo to take a look, Ekeler thought he was too small, but he got on campus and impressed the coaches.
