It was by far one of the easiest weight classes which is why the BC kid dropped down and won it all.

Not to mention he was losing late in the 2nd round match = if the Pingry kid didn’t lock hands in last minute of the match giving up a penalty point plus got choice (CH took bottom of course) there is a good chance he would have lost.

hope he proves me wrong and does well at Rider so we can grab him in the portal
The pingry kid grabbed fingers and backed away the whole match while Hansen was trying to throw him to get the all time pins record.

Gonzalez gave an interview to nj .com and said he went down to 138 bc he wasn’t cutting any weight and was eating breakfast and lunch everyday so he cut down and felt lighter and quicker

I was seated 15 feet from the match - agree CH pushed the pace early but Pingry kid wrestled him well and was in a position to win late. Not saying CH isn’t good or won’t be successful at Rider but he’d never put up those numbers if he wrestled at a powerhouse private school. I put him in the Charlie Esposito category = potential but prob not B1G.

you think GG is going to tell NJ.com that he dropped down because 138 was easier? At 144 you had Duffy (Iowa), DeGeorge (Rutgers), Hibler (NW), Henry (Hofstra), McCann (Liu), DePaul (Rutgers?)…GG wanted no part of that 144 weight class as almost the entire podium is committed to D1

Knox staying at stanford cross him off yall wishlist.

Rumor is Zepeda to Iowa , I wonder if that makes Amato decides to reconsider his commitment
Zepeda hasn't visited Michigan yet that will happen soon. That's what some people think will happen but he's gotta finish his visits. His brother is going to Michigan this coming year as well so tough decision for him

Anyone have insights on 2028 recruits?
I didn’t realize the new recruiting rule basically means 2028s have to wait until next year. IDK how that makes any sense and if a kid crushed it at states last year he now needs a repeat performance. And it gave underperformers another shot.

What do you mean? Colleges talk to incoming juniors on I believe June 15.

I haven’t tracked the new rule but heard a bunch of pissed off parents bitching about it. Basically backs kids into a corner because they won’t have much time to decide since they can’t contact until 4/1 or visit until 6/15 after Junior year. Pulled this from AI:

New Recruiting Contact Window (Class of 2028 and Beyond). The NCAA approved a rule change pushing back the timeline for direct recruiting communication:
  • The Old Rule: College coaches could begin calling, texting, and hosting prospects for official visits on June 15 after their sophomore year.
  • The New Rule: Direct contact and recruiting conversations by college coaches are strictly prohibited until April 1 of the wrestler's junior year.
  • The Impact: This gives college coaches more time to evaluate high school athletes as they grow, making it easier to project what college weight class a wrestler will realistically compete at.

Weird. Sounds like a rule for only wrestling. Doesn’t seem to help the kids at all.

Yes, it’s only wrestling. I have friends with kids that made the podium and are pissed. I have other friends with kids that **** the bed at states and they now get a second chance and are thrilled. Imagine you are a junior and can’t even visit until June heading into your senior year! You basically have a few months at best before you start applying so there is almost no time to decide.

Meyer Shapiro to Nebraska.
Apparently he’s going to take this year off.. makes sense, Shapiro peaked as a true freshman and took 3rd and hasn’t reached that form since. Probably good idea to take a year off to recover and slide back into 157 after Taylor graduates.

You’d think Eleazer DeLuca would help push him to RU and keep him close. Kid grew up in PA/NJ. Trained at the Dragons. RU apparently has money to spend?

Look at all the recruits Iowa has in Sonny’s range they had to make cuts to avoid serious logjams.

Before Ashnault got back not really. Will that change now time will tell.
100%, RU was not even in Amato’s top 4 before Ash.

Wonder how long Iowa will keep rolling w the Brands, first lose the Bassetts, now Amato, and the gap between Iowa, Penn st, Oklahoma st keeps growing.. wont be too shocking if they start consistently losing to Nebraska/VT soon.

His contract is up in 3 years I don't see them getting rid of him .

Was it Amato who had some question marks during the recruiting process? Got into trouble, character, or something else which was brought up on this board?

I really don't think we want that Amato, headache. We've seen it time and time with guys like Camp,Mason,Aragona,Glasgow, Raimo and that kid from Bergen( forgot his name). We don't need any more head cases. We're in a good position and can't be a truck stop for the mentally unstable.

He parties a lot and gets into fights. Heard he’s been arrested in the past. There’s not many coaches in the shore who have a good word to say about him outside of his talent.
