I hope they are paying attention. We're playing the top teams in the nation in the best conference. Playing for the national championship can be a reality here with their commitments..time to stop looking elsewhere, the green grass is right under your feet

This song has been playing since we joined the Big East with Miami, WVU, and Va Tech in the mix. Same for Basketball. We're doing a crappy job of selling proposition (and backing it up with performance)... Rutgers has PLENTY to sell but i guess the pitch men or presentation is lacking a compelling angle. Either that or go pay for some hookers and worry about the repercussions 5-10 years from now after we build it and the SL is no longer in business.

i hear you..... we're so close though and RU has been out of the cellar for a while now. We should continue to see improvement as these kids don't even remember the weak ru of the 90's

lol..ok ok
not sure why this is funny... in the big east it wasn't a guarantee... if we were undefeated right now we'd be in the mix for the playoff. That is reality-- no way to get shafted, no way to get passed over. winning the big 10 gets you in.

not true..the winner was in the BCS..

"Big East began football during the 1991–1992 season with the addition of Miami and was a founding member of the Bowl Championship Series.[61] The league obtained immediate legitimacy with the addition of powerhouse Miami.[citation needed]

BCS was 10 team's playing for National Championship and forerunner for the 4 team playoff system. We would be in under your scenario as well.

Because Rutgers isn't a committed sports school. Its a half-assed sports school that settles for the minimum. RU is in year two of B1G and still has spackle coaches filling "cracks". RU admins don't care much about football. Teams that play for - and win - championships are always top teams that hold their football dear. Teams don't "get lucky" in modern cfb They recruit the best and they hire the best coaches. Even if RU had a miracle and got all the top recruits in NJ 4 years in a row they couldn't win with a staff that's a better fit at Monmouth, Heck FSU was #1 or #2 in recruiting for years and was still losing 3-5 games a year until they got right coaches. In football, a coach and good admin are key. TCU and Peterson could take SUs recruits and beat RU even if they had all Rivals 100 players. Schiano showed what was possible but the miracle of focused admin commitment to football was short-lived.

an undefeated Rutgers in the big 10 would get a bcs bid but would most likely get passed over...the bcs was always rigged for the name brand school. The closest anybody got was Louisville. If you weren't from the pac, big10, big 12, acc or sec you weren't sniffing a bcs national championship... unless your name was miami.

They'll all be on the RU sideline the 1st quarter in order to take advantage of pre game food and have their way with Flood. They will all be on the OSU sideline by the 2nd quarter.

Disagree - WVU was on the way to the national title before losing in the backyard brawl to Pitt...think it was the year RR ended up leaving for UM.

That's right. Missouri was #1, WVU was #2 on Championship game Saturday and both lost.

Part of the problem is the NJ culture of self loathing and negativity. There doesn't seem to be any lack of effort by the coaching staff. I get a kick out of some of these recruit statements.."I love Rutgers", "Rutgers was first to offer...so I will always love them". Blah, Blah,Blah. I guess you have to be nice to these kids when they want to show up for a high profile game even though they view you as a fall back that will always be there if needed. I could not be a recruiter, I could not be so nice all the time.

It's not hard to sell this program. Schiano had a tough job, but he was a superb speaker, marketer, and closer.

Rutgers Football had its chance for a National Championship in 2006.

If we had won the triple overtime game at West Virginia, Rutgers would have been in the number 2 ranking spot.....because everyone above them except number one in the rankings lost at the end of the season.

There will soon come a time when Rutgers will have to tell a recruits like Rashan Gary..."listen son , you've always been welcome but ...after 10 times and we're not even in your TOP 5 ...THANKS but NO THANKS...we'll find another player who really LOVES Rutgers...sorry folks but this needs to be the mantra or we'll never see it change ...there are waaaay too many players around the country who would love to be a part of this conference...this culture and this school...Even if we beat Ohio State saturday night...Does anyone believe he changes his apparent opinion?...He wasn't the first but he should be the last that we get on our knees for.

Say what? We would have been #2? Nope. We would have had a BCS game, that's it, we weren't playing in the national title game.
