I haven`t heard it mentioned but the biggest loser if "something" doesn`t come from this fiasco will be the NCAA. Here you have a case of a very creditable informant in John Bond doing exactly what the NCAA would have him do through the exact channels they prescribedandyet he`s had to lawyer up and get in a defensive bunker. Rumors are even swirling of possible smear campaigns to discredit him. If theNCAA doesn`t get to the bottom of this QUICKLY I suspect the next person put in John`s position will choose a totally different route.Ifthe NCAA loses the faith of people who give them information in good faith they will have effectivelyneuteredthemselves.

At this point it appears to me that Rogers will be the sacrificial lamb, Bond will be regardedin the future as a less than creditable person by many, the integrity of the SEC will remain shadyat bestandthe Newtons and Auburn will walk. Hope I`m wrong but I`ve watched the NCAA 17 things up too many times.

but in the world we live in the story was fun for the press and now they are pretty much done with it. A few key people will keep an eye on it and if anything comes from it they will blow it out again. Otherwise people are going to move on with this as a mere footnote. It will be discussed as a Heisman issue. Once football season is over you won't hear about it again until the NCAA decides to either announce it as a non-issue or hammer the absolute hell out of Auburn. At that point Cam will be cashing million dollar checks on Sunday and daddy will have a solid gold church.

Bond will be mentioned here and there but he's not the real story so they don't care much about that. Mississippi State isn't the real story so our position will be largely ignored too. In our society we only care to deal with the one thing that is on fire right in front of our faces. Everyone except MSU and Auburn fans are going to forget about this as soon as football season ends.

You forgot about one major variable - Alabama. If Auburn goes on to the NC game and Newton goes on to win the Heisman, there is no way this dies down (assuming there really is fire to all this smoke). Especially considering Alabama will end up with at least 3 losses in that scenario. Little Brother can't buy a 200k QB and go on to win the NC without a lot of heat from Big Brother. I doubt this story fades away...

Here's probably how it went down..

Rogers gave 2 individuals a list of contacts and Bond's name was on it. I would imagine they only meet in person and probably used prepaid cell phone cards. Once they got the $ from Auburn, they probably donated it to a non profit organization, when then donated it to Newton's church.

Think about how hoard that is to prove.

I believe you can add potential future NCAAinformants to your shortlist of people who aren`t going to forget about this.

If the NCAA doesn't handle this right, I saw 17'em. Katie bar the door. Its on. Where can I send my donation for us signing the next Heisman QB?

If they let Auburn off on this, I'm going to be pissed that none of our boosters stepped up and gave them the money if we could have gotten away with it.

I have a feeling that something is going to happen to Auburn, though.

...you have people representing people who represent people talking to people who represent people who represent people. Of course the problem with plausible deniability is that people wonder if there's institutional control-- if anything happened.

The NCAA couldn't care less about it. If they think you're guilty, they'll bring the hammer down.

The NCAA has something on Auburn. There's no reason for them otherwise to have opened this can of worms, and by default, there's no reason for ESPN and the NY Times to have spent this much effort either, if they did not have something on Auburn and the Newtons.

NCAA was already investigating them after they pulled in the previous year's recruiting class. They will get the hammer either way. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Or is it something you heard? Or is it just a hunch?

How about some details? I'd love for this to be the case as those pricks are more arrogant than Mississippi.

has been informing me about this situation for a while now. Said that's why they are being so quick with this Mule saga. They have already been questioning Chizik's first class and how quickly he pulled in top recruits right at the end. He used to work for newpaper in Alabama and covered all AU sports for a few years so he is in the know as to the shady recruiting AU does. I just hope this Cam thing, either opens up avenues to previous years or gets this season stricken from the books. Either way they have multiple occurrences to investigate. I will update as I find out more but he's been pretty busy lately.

it seems there are no new details at all other than what was originally reported in December.....i hope yall are right and i hope the process moves right along, but up until now i have been given no reason to believe the NCAA is moving any faster than they normally do (other than the original information was leaked)

go read what RougeDawg has said just a few lines above.

Plus this was not turned over to the NCAA until about July(per the SEC per reports)

I'm surprised no one here has figured that out, it's obvious listening to ESPN. I'm sure the NCAA is looking for a smoking gun, but it's obvious they haven't found one yet, and don't expect to, so Rogers is being described as a rogue agent with no connection to Cecil, and Auburn never paid anybody. Makes me sick to my stomach, hell we have not one but TWO players currently suspended.

Most still haven't caught on: MSU is one of the league's biatches, Auburn isn't.

we all thought we were?

that's what seems strange... if we reported something like this, it would appear that we wouldn't be foolish enough to sign him

thoughts?

it would appear that mullen thought he had cam but then found out it would come at a price and we got pissed off and reported it then that would have been the end of our hopes.... so we sign little favre...

I dunno.. maybe somebody can help me out here

is July 2010 when the SEC reported their findings to the NCAA. John Bond reported to MSU back in December 2009.

MSU informed the SEC in January,
SEC informed the NCAA in July, (after receiving other info).
Or something like that.
