The potential for a turnaround next season is clear. If we can get Bost and Sidney back, we'd have Moultrie, Steele, Shaun, and Wendell back. Add "the freshmans," and I CAN'T WAIT FOR STANSBURY TO TORCH YOU FOOLS!!<div>
</div><div>Only time will tell, and the odds are against it, but the man deserves one more year. He will get it. And I hope he makes it hurt for you haters. Say what you want, but I feel great to be on the dwindling side of supporters of our loyal, successful basketball coach. I cherished the thought of you detractors praying for an MSU loss tonight, knowing that it would cut against your message board tirades...How terrible a way to watch a State game..I hope you fellas have to endure a long painful year of MSU basketball success next year. It will make it all the more sweeter. </div>

...Maybe you are acting as Stansbury's personal publicist because you want attention.

If not, then you sound like one of those Japanese soldiers left on the island who still thought WWII was being fought 5 years after it had ended.

Stansbury's run is over @ Mississippi State Univeristy.

There is nothing left for Stansbury in Starkville.

Stansbury needs to take a job @ Iona or Drexel and begin the new phase of his life.

Meanwhile, to take Stansbury's place, Miss. State needs to hire a hardass who demands discipline.

"The potential for a turnaround next season is clear."-thats been the story of The Recruiter's entire tenure- "potential"- yet the two greatest seasons in ours school's history belong to Richard Williams- and theywont even be threatened as long as Stands is the coach.

"Only time will tell, and the odds are against it"- thats the first damn thing you've said correctly on this board.

"How terrible a way to watch a State game"- No, terrible is watching him piss away your hopes and dreams for your University to gain some positive notoriety with dumbass coaching move after dumbass move:

Play zone vs Duke with JJ Redick? The ACC's all-time 3-point shooter????
Let Butler playslow down all nite against a team ofmuch better athletes?
Walk the ball up the floor time after time against a Georgia team playing their 2nd game of the day?
Allow dopehead Courtney Fortson to break down your man D for30 points when he couldnt outshoot me from 3 pt range?
Wait too late to foul Memphis who shoot FT's like a Special Olympics team?

and those are just some lowlights over the years

Whats sad is you think he will actually come thru at some point...you're like the 8 year old about to find out Santa Claus doesnt exist....it's going to be so sad when you finally realize

Problem is we still have the same old coach.

I don't care if we go undefeated in the regular season and in the SECT. If we lose in the first round of the NCAAT, we still haven't accomplished much. Make 1 decent tournament run in his tenure, and I'd cut the guy some slack. Problem is that takes good coaching or the absolute top talent. When talent is equal (or even if we are a little more talented), coaching beats us 8 to 9 times out of 10. Thats unacceptable.

Seeing as how we have all this potential for next year... Who's fault will it be when we underachieve again next year, just like every year? The refs again? Or b/c some player(s) left early?

There have been too many MSU teams with GREAT talent, and nothing to show for it under Stansbury. Assuming the team stays intact next year, we may have the most talented team ever at MSU, and I guarantee we still won't make the Sweet 16, even though we will have some of the most raw talent guys in NCAA and we will play one of the easiest schedules in the country.

We will fail again next year, and you will have some excuse as to why we have failed and why it's okay, and how the next years team will be great.

With no Bost or Sidney for the first half of the season?...I don't think so. Maybe if you could reset the year with a full squad (including Bailey)...but certainly not without those two most talented players having the non-conference slate to work themselves into playing shape and develop chemistry and also being short a body down low. That comment is painfully misleading.<div>

If Dee and Renardo were to not come back next year, would the additon of Moultrie, the 3 freshmens, Steele and Lewis returning be enough to keep the same standard of getting to the NCAA's or fire Stans? Do you still just give him next year or would the departure of those 2 be a new excuse to give yet 1 more year to develop the 3 freshmens?

Is Renardo going to be in shape? Is Renardo going to behave and give effort? Is Dee going to decide that he actually wants to play a full schedule next year or is he going to bail on us for half the season?

is that no matter what, we have to make the NCAA tourney next season, or Stansbury needs to be let go. Having said that, I would not be up in arms about another early exit. <div>
</div><div>To me, Stansbury has proven that he can get his teams to the NCAA. He has more NCAA appearances in his tenure than all SEC teams except Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas. I understand he has not made a sweet 16. I'm not excited about that. But I don't think that because he's not made it in the past, he'll never make it. He's won big games in the SEC tournament against good teams with good coaches in a tournament setting. </div><div>
</div><div>As long as he keeps getting his teams into the tournament, I favor keeping him. I believe that we will break through one day if we keep getting there. I think the odds are tremendously low (I'd say less than 5%) that we can hire someone who will come in and make more NCAA tournaments over the next 12 years than 7 SEC programs, and I personally enjoy looking forward year in and year out to having my team playing in the tournament and not sitting at home (like the Mississippi Black Bears).</div>

How islosing a senior with as much potential as Ravern addition by subtraction? If Ravern had been required to play defense and/or lift weights from the beginning of his career at MSU, he'd either have quit the team a lot earlier or he would be good right now. This problem should have been addressed a long time ago.Instead we have a senior that when his shot is dropping, almost gives it all back on the other end of the floor and when his shot is not dropping, is a complete liability.

How in the hell did Stans bury Osby on the bench while playing Ravern? If Osby isn't the lasiest sack of **** ever, heshould have been playing over Ravernany time Ravern refused toplay defense.

All the armchair quarterbacks out there...everything is so simple in hindsight isn't it...<div>
</div><div>Answer me this:</div><div>
</div><div>How did Stansbury make more NCAA tournaments in his 12 years than Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, LSU, and Mississippi? Was it better facilities? No. Was it talent left over by another? No. Was it having the most money? No. </div><div>
</div><div>Hmmm. What was it then? According to some of you guys, it had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that overall, top to bottom, Stansbury is a pretty damn good college basketball coach. He has his strengths and weaknesses, but it's ridiculous to sit here and act like the man has been on a 12 year lucky streak.</div>

with some really good recruitingin a 4 year stretch, 13 years of having the 6th or lower strength of schedule in the SEC, plusbeing the lucky benefactor of the Baylor situation- one the NCAA has never encountered before or since.

The Recruiters career can be broken down like this:

1st 3 seasons- no NCAA's
Great 4 year run
Now 2tripsin the last 6 years

So, to summarize, his tenure at State has been slow to start, good in the middle, and now back to slow again. He is clearly showing that 4 years was his "lightning in a bottle" and he wont ever see those days again.

Or another would be to say we've gotten to the tourney two of the last 3 years and won 1 SEC tourney championship and lost another by 1 point in that time as well.

It is also true that last year was a massive, massive disappointment. It started with Rider, continued with Richmond and Western Kentucky, built steam with Alabama and Arkansas, and came to a head at Auburn and on senior day. We had no business being in the NIT. That is another fact.

I don't judge our seasons on the final record. Fair or not, I judge it on one thing: how good I think we should have been. In truth, that's what we all do whether we realize it or not. Some people have unrealistically high expectations. Some people, in my estimation, are satisfied with far too little. I'd like to think I am a moderate on this issue. I don't expect another Final Four, ever. I do expect to be in the NCAAs about 1/2 to 2/3 of the time with about half of those as a decent seed (6 or better). If you do that, you will eventually advance. I could live with the earlier flameouts if we had followed that up with stronger performances, but our regular season play made advancing past the first round difficult, and the second round nearly impossible. The regular season is why I say we are not meeting expectations. At least MY expectations.

For example.....

The year before when we won the SECT, same story. That team was good enough to win four games in four days, but not good enough to beat Charlotte, San Diego (not San Diego State mind you, San Diego), a down Washington State team, a way down Texas Tech team, or a down Cincinnati team. We also closed out February losing 5 of 6, putting us in position to HAVE to win the tourney to make the NCAAs. I am glad we did, but we got shipped cross country and got our *** whipped. Another disappointing season.

The year before that (2008) was probably the most disappointing of all. Rhodes, Gordon, Varnado, Stewart, Hansbrough, etc......easily the most talent Stans has had other than 2004. We lost every single non-conference game of any consequence that year. Clemson, Southern Illinois, Miami (OH), Miami (FL), and throw in South Alabama to boot. OK, we beat Missouri, who finished 16-16 and way out of the NCAAs. I won't complain about being 12-4 in the league, other than to say I can guarantee you no player would score 40+ points on my team while making 7 straight threes or whatever it was. He might shoot a lot of FTs, but he would not hit that many threes. So then we go off to Atlanta as a favorite to win the SECT, and get beat by Georgia. Georgia. Not Mark Fox's UGA. Dennis Felton's overmatched squad playing their second game of the day. The crappy non conference and the SEC choke cost us at least one line in seeding in the NCAAs, and we end up an 8 seed where we promptly bow out in the second round. Of all the seasons to gripe about, this one deserves the most.

The year prior, 2007, guess what we did? Lost all of our notable non conference games, then struggled to an 8-8 SEC record. But we won the West!! NIT that year too, which is probably where the talent deserved.

In 2006 we were just pitiful after losing so many players. Every school needs a rebuilding year now and then. This was ours.

Other than 2008, the 2005 season was the next biggest disappointment. A first team All American returning, along with Frazier, Power, Harper and Ervin. There was even a young Charles Rhodes on the bench had we chosen to play him. We lost our two most notable non conference games that year too, and beat up on a bunch of nobodies. We struggled to a 9-7 SEC record, and ended up an 8 seed, eventually losing to Duke. No doubt Timmy and Branden were huge losses, but from a 2 seed to an 8 seed with what we had coming back? Disappointing.

This is why we have to take a hard look at the overall state of the program. I would love to see Rick reverse this and have us challenging for a top 2-3 spot in the SEC and an NCAA seed better than 8. But the past six years plus this one are not very encouraging.

Why wait until next year? What about all those other years he has underperformed? Even with 13 years, the last 6 years is enough of a track record to say we can't get over the hill. Have you even watched a basketball game this year? Talent is no good if you can't do anything with it.

2009, we made the tournament by winning the SECT. I was there. We played the best basketball of the year in those four days. Believe me, it was exciting. But that year, I also saw us loose games we should have won, notably loosing by 18 to Auburn AT HOME (granted, they finished second in the West that year, we were still better), a TERRIBLE San Diego team (by giving up a huge shot to put them into overtime), and Charlotte. <div>
</div><div>So yes, maybe I should have counted that year, but wasn't last year the same song, second verse? We weren't "screwed" out of the tournament, we didn't win games we should have won. This isn't a "once in a blue moon VT loosing to James Madison" kind of thing, this has kept us out of the tournament several times the last few years. </div><div>
</div><div>A 21 win season is meaningless if you loose to Rider and can't beat anyone with an RPI over 50. Those are the things the Vanderbilts and the Tennessees of the world do year after year to keep them in tournament. Heck, the same Tennessee that got blown out by Kentucky last year in the SECT turned right around and went to the Elite 8 for the first time in their history. Whose to say we can't do that? Stans hasn't shown anyone in the last 13 years he is capable of getting us past the second round (thats if we make the dang tournament).</div><div>
</div><div>And my last rant is I'm sick of having to be in the position of winning the SECT every year to get to the tourney. </div><div>

Stansbury obviously has done somegoodthings. The reason he gets criticized is b/c lot ofhis weaknesses are in very visible areas and a lot of that is by arm chair coaches who underestimate how good of a job he does. But not requiring Ravern to play defense or lift weights wasn't a mistake. It was him failing to do his job. It's not like there is some grand debate over whether all five players should play hard on defense. It's not like people disagreeing on whether zone or man to man is a better defense. Everybody agrees that all five players should play defense.

And you really need to figure out why people want to replace Stansbury. People understand that we'll be lucky if our next coach has acareer that is equal or better than his. But that's not what's important. What's important is how lucky will we have to be to get a coach that will do as well or better as Stansbury over the next 4 years, and the reality is, not very.

We may end up with a coach that's a bust, but what's the difference between going to the NIT and staying home? Not a lot and well worth gambling for a chance to raise your overall ceiling.

...we will lose to one or two ****** little mid-major schools early in the year. Our starting center will not be in shape. It will take half the season for the team to "gel". Then we'll have to listen to morons like you blame our youth when we struggle in close games down the stretch. We'll finish somewhere around .500 in a ****** division of ashitty basketball conference, and then we'll have to listen to morons like you argue that Stans deserves another year because all the freshmens will be coming back and that next year could really be the year!!!!111!!1!

Classic underachiever.
