Back to Back years with a State Champion in Region 4B & the Navy Gang gets #2๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’. Iโ€™m so proud of my guys they fought and battled all year an the KG game was the epitome of mental toughness and grit. Next year the road to repeat for the Generals will be extremely tough as 4B will be as loaded as itโ€™s ever been IMO. Dinwiddie, KG, Varina, will be the favorites but EV, PH & Powhatan will be significantly better . The winner will almost certainly get the task of facing Phoebus for the opportunity to play in States. Man is it August yet ๐Ÿ˜… #BLEEDNAVY

I think you can even take it back to that loss to Patrick Henry as a very powerful learning moment for this years championship team

That's a heck of a state semifinal match-up in 2023. I left Lynchburg after watching both games craving to see Phoebus and Dinwiddie play. That will be must-see if it happens next season.

Why doesnโ€™t VHSL ever change up the Region Semifinal pairings? Region A shouldnโ€™t have to face B every year in the semis and Region C play D. Mix it up every other year.

During interviews for the team Captains positions before the season started, one of the questions each candidate was asked, โ€œwhich team would they most like to beat this season?โ€ Every one of them named the same teamโ€ฆ, PH.

Because Region C and D have the most schools and they vote it down. Facts! They try to use travel as an excuse, When you look at the new plan with the northwestern district being in Region D the travel argument no longer has validity. A and B have wanted cross bracketing in football for years. Salem and one C team have proven they can win it all. The time is now.

I agree. The excitement and benefit of facing new competition from around the state greatly outweighs and travel distance concerns.
I like the idea of cross bracketing AND rotating which Regions match up to which regions. Yesterday, BN brought up the fact that a format change like stated above would put an added emphasis on obtaining home field advantage, and as a result, provide an encouragement to schedule tougher OOD games.

My wish is that ADs and Principals across the state be less single minded about what is best for just their school, District, or Region, and consider what is best for football, and all athletics, across the entire state.

Well the loophole in the way the power points are currently done would lead to playing good lower division teams. For points.
Ex). LB played Appomattox and got 18+2+14 = 34
Equivalent to beating a 7-3 C3 school
They also played Riverheads 16+4+18= 38
Equivalent to beating a 9-1 class 3 school

I believe everyone would agree that most 9-1 or 7-3 C3 schools would nire than likely beat both

Very valid point, a lot of teams do that now. We surely benefitted from playing Class 3 Heritage. Not sure how you could remedy that.

You would have to eliminate the 2 bonus points you get per classification when you play down. You use to only get it for playing district opponents. VHSL changed it for everyone to encourage playing down and making it easy to schedule teams

I thought of that but then we would have trouble getting class 5 and 6 teams to play us. Tough one.
Salem doesn't like to play down. Would rather play up to prepare for the playoffs. Only problem is most 5/6 teams have plenty of opportunities to schedule within division.

The kids from Louisa was doing most of the heavy lifting but since they are no longer in Region 4B some folks from the 17 schools that are left need to take up the mantle and run the region's social media.
