Congratulations to GW! The Freshman Smith #23, was the difference maker in the game. Much different GW team tonight than the one I saw against Northside. Salem hasn't been this good for a while in basketball. A 20 win season & RRD Champs is a solid foundation to build from. Only 3 Srs this year, so hopefully they'll build on this for next year. Shout out to The Sixth Man Sports Network for the stream!
Maxpreps says Halifax won 51-50 but it also says that game was played on 2/17/2025. It does say Region Tournament game. Confusing

The fourth seeded Mecklenburg County High School varsity boys basketball team will face five-seed Halifax County in the quarterfinal round of the VHSL Region 4D tournament Friday in Baskerville at 6 p.m.
This will be the fourth time the two teams have met during the season, with the Comets holding the 2-1 edge. The teams most recently squared off Monday night when Halifax captured a 51-50 semifinal win over Mecklenburg in the Piedmont District tournament. That game was played at Bassett High School.
The last regular season meeting between the two teams resulted in a 62-61 win by Mecklenburg on Jan 28. In that game, a last second putback attempt by Halifax County went in the basket but it was ruled that time had expired on the clock for the one-point Phoenix victory.
On Dec. 20 Halifax defeated Mecklenburg 55-43 in South Boston in the teams’ first meeting of the season.

Yep, was scheduled to play the play in winner on Monday after Glass girls, but I am not sure if weather last week made a mess of the scheduling. I think Halifax vs GW may have been pushed back as well last week.
