VHSL released their ratings this morning... Not much has changed...

#1 34.7 Colonial Forge
#2 34.0 Manchester
#3 29.2 Thomas Dale
#4 25.7 Cosby
#5 25.0 Franklin
#6 24.6 Clover Hill
#7 21.5 Riverbend

Odd man out is James River at 20.1

Playoff matchups with two weeks to go...
#1 Colonial Forge Bye
#7 Riverbend at #2 Manchester
#6 Clover Hill at #3 Thomas Dale
#5 Franklin at #4 Cosby

Thoughts and observations? Has anything changed in your opinion as we get closer to the playoffs?

First thought.......why is a 1 or 2 win team going to be in the playoffs. Especially when it could be a rematch of a game Manchester won either 75-0 or 79-0 earlier this year. Has to be a better way........

That is the points system as it exists... The VHSL rating scale is structured to award teams who play tougher schedules rather than teams who play a bunch of cupcakes and finish 10-0 without being tested.

It doesn't help that there are only eight teams in Region 6B and 7 of them make the playoffs.

Exactly on the "cupcakes". Great explanation!

I understand thats the way the VHSL points system works, I was just lamenting there has to be a better way. Whether combining regions or just saying four or six teams make it. Just seems really silly to have 1-9 or 2-8 teams in for what will amount to a complete and total blowout 99% of the time
