Reliant Stadium has two playing surfaces. I don't know which one

will be used next Saturday. What kind of surface does Okie State play on at their stadium.

I believe they have the same type of artificial turf as OM. But that is based on memory, could be wrong.

They have two: one authentic grass surface and one kind of like Astroturf. Normally they use the artificial one for college but if they have a pro game in short order they not have time enough to change it out. I don't know if the Texans play in there the following day or not.

That's what I figured. Does Okie State have artificial turf? This is not a neutral site by any means, in the heart of Big 12 country. We're whores for dollars in this one.

Yes. OK State plays on turf.

You could also argue that our speed on defense since we'll be playing "multiple" is benefitted by turf... but I'd much rather their offense play on thick grass than fast turf.

I don't know if the new turf still has the same speed advantages. But it will be faster than grass nevertheless.

The field is comprised of eight-foot square trays, which hold sections of grass that are pieced together for games. These trays are removed after Texans games to be properly exposed to sunlight, water, and fertilization.

However, to maintain the quality and performance of the portable natural grass turf system, the hosting of other non-NFL events at Reliant Stadium has been kept to a minimum.


"We're trying to save the natural grass field for the NFL so it will stay in better condition, and yet we're trying to generate new revenue," said Mark Miller, General Manager of SMG – Reliant Park. "Revenue from the synthetic turf system can recover the cost in very short order. Anything that is not the NFL, we will try to play it on the AstroTurf if the schedule allows. This would include high school and college football playoff games, the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, and others.

Reliant Stadium has a grass surface for NFL games. The grass is in trays that are moved outside for growth, watering, maintenance, etc. Turf can be installed so Houston can host more high school games and NCAA games. They haven't been able to host the TX High School Championships because of the number of games in such a short period of time and have the grass playable for the NFL games.
