At this point I don't count nobody out, here's my take. Gretna has been stacking points on folks all season. Raiders travel to Gretna mid season and pull off a 21-7 W. The 7 for Gretna was a fluke 7, fumble recovery near endzone then ran in. Ok, with that said, Our defensive Coach Castello has the nick name the Wing T killer as shown on the two teams first meeting. If Gretna doesnt have a different game plan I see Appo pulling off the win. We only put up 21 on them so I am definetly not counting the Hawks out. (Should have been 28, our QB faked all the reffs out on QB keeper and ran around side for TD. They called it back cause reffs lost the ball...It was FUNNY though) Anyways Gretna are fast. If our DBs can defend the slant and the deep ball they throw up here and there I think we will be ok and come out with the Win ! Raiders advance to Round 4....... Yall's turn

Gretna can be very dangerous, but if Appo strikes first and makes them play from behind and off their game plan then coach smith will out fox them again.

Appomattox is definitely the favorite but Gretna is playing much better now. Think the TJ game was an eye opener as they were playing just plain flat. Can see a considerable difference in enthusiasm since then. Think Appomattox might see a different team this go around but that might still not be enough. Gretna got shoved around up front on both sides of ball last time. Think that will be the deciding factor again. They got shoved around again they lose. If they can at least hold their ground they have a shot.

Was not impressed with Gretna the first game that was there chance to dethrone the champs and they couldn’t get it done. Radford was not the same team they played earlier in the year , looking for the same type of game , Appo 28-7

Radford from what i have read here was down an additional player from when Gretna played them the first time. But like i said Gretna can be very dangerous and Appo will have to be ready for a dog fight.

Just hoping everyone stays healthy. I hate if any team has a key player/players out. I mean just for example, if Appo was to lose Tre the QB or Feguson our Bruiser RB I think that could be the X factor on advancing. Just like I had Buckingham making it to states but after I heard their QB went out second half against Page county thats when I knew the game was so tight. Then I heard he would be out for the rest if playoffs and that sealed the deal on Buck Towns run had IMO. They had a freshman play 2nd round and it showed by the score when they lost. Buckingham should definitely be a big contender next year also, they only had 5 seniors. They are getting back a bruiser RB that broke his leg in first game also, unless he was a senior. All in all, sometimes the next man up is the end of the road to the Big Show. #PO1Always #Seeking4th

Seems like a lot of the Final 8 are young. SD has 5 seniors, 3 who play

Wise Central is SUPER young. I think all their playmakers are underclassmen.
The top playmaker for KW, Demond Claiborne is only a sophomore. Four of their starting linemen are underclassmen plus their top lineman tore his ACL midseason and he's a junior. I believe 7 offensive starters are underclassmen with at least 5 of those being sophomores. Defensively, they also start 5 or 6 underclassmen, including one freshman and at least 4 sophomores. They also had an undefeated JV team this year as well. Very talented group of kids, and Coach Dehart has done a remarkable job with them.

Graham loses 17 or 18 seniors I believe and several are starters. They do have a sophomore Xavion Turner , son of Ahmad Bradshsw who is already a rising star. He's going to be something special. D-1 prospect Brody Meadows is back next year as well.

I agree. I think Gretna is very different from when we played them and very dangerous. The Hawks are also peaking at the right time. I think this game goes to the team who makes the less mistakes. Both have power and passing. Both are about the same in team depth. Kicking game is pretty even... You have to give the coaching edge to Appo without taking anything away from Coach Simpson. I think it’s a dogfight.

Gretna is really playing solid ball right now and they have peaked. Still, I wouldn't say Appo is a bad matchup for Gretna, but it's not the best matchup. Appo has maybe the top run defense in 2A, and definitely Region C. Gretna has one of the best run offenses in 2A and probably the best in Region C, so something has to give.

I give the edge to Appo because of their ability to pass the ball a little better than Gretna. Man, I know Gretna is conservative, but if they would just add a few wrinkles of offense like screens or hitches they would be far more dangerous. I just think Gretna has to many athlete's to not throw the ball a touch more than what they do, even if conservative short passes, it would really cause issues for defenses and open things up. Appo does the above with the passing game and it's what separates them. They throw it just enough to give them some separation.

Appo 27, Gretna 21

I don't know the numbers for Wise, but I'm pretty sure all their leading rushers and receivers will be back.

Our QB played but was mere image of himself. Player of the year nominee Walter Edwards played with a very bad groin injury(I felt sorry for him). The bruiser we lost against Appomattox is only a sophomore. We also lost his replacement against Nottoway. I said after the Prince Edward game that I was worried about the injuries and it definitely was the deciding factor. Our QB reinjured his surgically repaired knee against Page but he did tough it out against East Rock. We still moved the ball but the homerun speed we had was not there. These boys also played defense and you can't stop East Rock if you can't run. They got kids that can fly. All in all great season we only lose 2 starters (rb and lineman). If we can stay healthy we'll be primed for another run at it. Good luck to all still playing.

Hoot, look back at how many we lost after the 2016 team!! If memory is correct we lost 21. Coach Smith was asked at the banguet how he was sleeping now that he was losing so many. Coach replied he was sleeping like a baby... waking up every hour and crying !!!
Lol.

I’m coming to the game this Friday from Richmond. What’s a good time to be at the game to get a good seat?

Probably 30 minutes before should be ok. Go by Babcock House , Railyard or get a Chick-Fil-a at the game for food. Babcock is really good.
Thanks bro. Will probably spend the day in Lynchburg and if dad doesn’t want Texas Roadhouse, we’ll try those places. I ate at the convenience store (across from Taco Bell; beside Wendy’s) last Friday. Best fried chicken in the 434!

Prayer Circle is 60 minutes before kick off if you are interested in seeing that.
Thanks for coming!!!

P.S. Just don't take my seats. Would hate to throw a visitor out! LOL!
I've been in the same seats for every game since the 2015 season.

My opinion Natours around the corner has best fried yard bird.

And I'd say the Quikie in town by McD's.

Been 8 years since I’ve been to a home Appomattox game. It’s a great place to watch a game. I don’t have a preference who wins, I respect both programs. Looking forward to a great football game.
