Definitely an upgrade in facilities here. Looks pretty good.

Seems like that's a really big need for State, but it also might be too expensive an undertaking for a non-revenue sport.

I like the connected walkway up top to be able to walk back and forth between the two sports. Does this mean the schedules will be matched to have home games at the same time? Excellent idea if the two sports will help each other this way.

Or is this something we had to do under Title IX?<div>
</div><div>It's nice ... but a lot of money for sports that will never pay for themselves. Do they even sell tickets to softball and tennis, or can you get in free?</div>

They do need the upgrades though but personally I had rather have the Dudy Noble improvements first since baseball does generate revenue.

and they will pay for it in 5 years. Use the facilities for high school and summer travel team tournaments as well. Plenty of ways to generate revenue without charging a dime for admissions.

That's why I always wondered why we made the Sanderson Center pool the way we did. I wasn't in the meetings, but heard LT wouldn't chip in any money, so the pool was intentionally made just shy of regulation. Maybe that is common knowledge. Could have brought in a nice amount of moneyhosting state swim meets and such. Oh well, opportunity wasted

We are scheduled to host the SEC Softball Tourney in a few years, so I imagine the timing for this project will coordinate to be done in preparation for that.

Not a money deal. They did not want to be begged every bad weather weekend to host swim meets. I understand that side of it....but I kind of think it was short sighted in case you ever did want to add swimming as a sport.

Doesn't seem like it would be a huge deal to dig another foot into the floor...

Starkville High hosted several meets there this year

Did they just use a different size or did they not care?

All others in the league (minus Kentucky) do

However, either way, the 2014 SEC Tournament will be here and the league will have an admission charge for that ... so there will need to be tickets/media will call ... etc etc

They'd obviously have to do somehthing about the loading area, but a street market type thing would be sweet. Put in some souvenir shops, a cheese and ice cream store, a Lil' Dooeys or some local restaurant, mabye a kids zone.

In terms of local competition, the length really doesn't matter all that much. Not many kids are stroke counting for breaths and the best turn. Of course, no times would count toward Zones qualifying or anything, but the good swimmers would get chances on private teams. Not sure what the one up that way is, but it would be like Sunkist or Makos in Jackson. Travelling meets is where they qualify, not at high school meets. I'd actually be surprised if there were many high school meets that were USA Swimming certified.

High school swims short course lengths which is not swam at the collegiate level. At most pools used for competitive swimming in Mississippi, the pool is long enough for long course distances and wide enough for short course distances. The lane markers are just turned from side to side for short course. This is the case for Tupelo, Delta State (always host short course in MS), Biloxi and all the outdoor facilities.

I think this would be fantastic. MSU already has great attendance in tennis and doing this will only improve upon Nilsson's ability to recruit incredible national and international players. As far as softball, we definitely made a statement by hiring Vann Steuekfnslevr. With her immediate success with garbage talent we have an opportunity with her to be a power. I don't necessarily care for either sport, especially softball, but this is incredible. Both would increase our university's exposure by pushing our two programs (and other programs) from mediocre and not heard of to nationally reputable. If Pepperdine wasn't a powerhouse in tennis I can promise you I wouldn't even know who they were. Sometimes investing in nonrevenue sports is a great investment, like this case.
