4 out of 5 years go bowling with 1 year where we step up and win 9-10 games. Mullen is right on cue.

If we continue this type of success for 2 more seasons, my expectations will shift where we need a few more step up years.

I agree with this! Mullen has done a sufficient coaching job up to this point. But next year he needs to step it up a notch!

I think those are fair expectations. I agree... If we keep it up for two more years it'll be time to step up our expectations.

State fans caring only about beating OM is pure poppycock. Its in the top 5 for me. But the only thing? Nonsense.

I am to the point now where 7-5 should be the floor. This would likely require him to beat one team he shouldn't in most years.

I have been on the fence with Mullen all season. My biggest complaint was our team playing without much fire or passion for 4 full quarters. They did that in the last 4 games this year. Some switch finally kicked back on. If we continue to play like that, the frequency of playing good teams down to the wire and upsetting a few of them will increase.

For God's sake though, please Dan Mullenz hire a 17ing ST coach or give the duties to someone else already on staff.

If we keep the OSU games off the schedule, it could be. Of course that's another debate.

My biggest fear is that we will turn into the Jeff Bower version of Southern Miss by only beating non-conference cupcakes, and in-conference bottom dwellers every year to only manage 6-7 wins and a bowl game. I'd rather have that than 3-9 or 2-10 every year with Croom though.... Mullen has to walk a fine line between having the onions to go for it to get the extra wins, and stupid impatient decisions that keep us from maintaining status-quo. I think 2013 goes into the books as a good year for MSU football though.

By year 6, I expect Mullen to beat a Highly Ranked team. He needs a signature win next year..
Our defense has really played better as the year progressed.
We didn't have a chance to see it with the offense b/c of TR and Dak being hurt.
But you really have to question the RB's playing time and Special Team decisions by Dan.

I think 6 and 6 should be the floor now (exception is 1 out of 5 years maybe lower). Continue the trend for the next 2 years around 6 to 8 wins, and I think the floor should go to 7 and 5.

This year we have very few seniors and due to that we lack some leadership. As the season went on, we played with more consistency and effort. I think thats due to developing leaders and growing up over the year. With a fairly young team (not many seniors) and a tough schedule, I think 6 and 6 is a success. I'm not screaming from a mountain top about our 6 and 6 year, but I believe it is a success.

I'll agree with your last two points.

My question is this: Would you rather be 6 and 6 right now with our current schedule and 4 straight bowl games, or would your rather be 5 and 7 with a loss to Arkansas and say Bowling Green or Kentucky with a win over LSU, Auburn or Texas A&M?

Anything short of 8-4 should be considered a disappointment next year. 4 OOC wins, Arky, and UK get us to 6. Add in Vandy and UM and we're at 8, but that's still losing to the top 4 in the SECW. Three of those four will be replacing excellent QBs and lots of other starters, and Auburn frankly had a better outcome than their talent level indicated. To get to the next level we need to win at least 1 of those. It's our best chance at winning the west for a long time.

7-5 is the floor for next year. If we go 6-6 again it will be a serious disappointment, but I would not be shocked at it.

I think next year you will see more of what Mullen can with just Dak back there. More scoring and his style. At least that's what I been hoping for now for three years. On the defense side of ball the is setting pretty good.. Have a good bowl win and I see things looking good....

Egg Bowl on the road scares me, but if JFF leaves then A&M is very beatable at home. Maybe pull the upset against Auburn at home to break through to 9 regular season wins.

I don't care what kind of team we have, you can NEVER count the Egg Bowl in Oxford as a win preseason. I'd label next year's egg bowl as a likely loss/toss up.

That's why I'm saying 7-5 is the floor and also a disappointment. Because we lose the Egg Bowl in that scenario, and that is always a disappointment.
