“The highly critical nature of officiating warrants the priority we’ve given to our instant replay technology,” said Mike Slive, SEC commissioner. “Our football programs are worthy of the best resources available, and that is why we’ve chosen to incorporate HD instant replay technology for the 2010 season, and are pleased to be working with XOS in this endeavor.”
When asked about other opportunities to use the technology Slive was quoted, "if you mean basketball, I could give a <17>".

TV resolution isn't the problem with replay officiating. The problem is Rogers Redding.

It just goes to show how little the blue hairs in charge actually know about modern technology. Wasn't it Rogers Redding that said they didn't need HD replay in the booth because they could see just fine on the standard def monitor?

With all the money the SEC rakes in, there is no reason why the replay officials shouldn't have 60" HD flat screen televisions to use for their replays. Maybe it would help some of the geriatrics that work the replay booth so that they can actually see the football, feet, and little things like that which the average fan can see at home.

It's really a shame we didn't have HD replay before that. We've got HD video boards, and just now do we have HD replay monitors.

...which the replay officials will continue to ignore 3/4 of the time.

comes with it the assumption that the ref's on the field are getting it wrong or are incapable. Fact is, the human eye just cannot process the info quickly enough and they do need the help. But as you alluded to, these are old fogies that dont want to get into all that high minded stuff like computers, monitors and admitting they need it.

Football could be revolutionized with added cameras aimed down boundaries, computer chip inbedded in the ball to determine if a ball broke the plane etc....but it's going to take the blue hairs retiring for that kind of thing to acutally be considered.

Honestly you would have thought this would have followed quickly behind theimplementation of the replay system, but no. It just makes too much sense.

and gotten the Houston illegal forward pass call right, yet they didn't - even after reviewing it at the conference office.

crap - they could have disney 3-d with the pentagon checking over it, and they would still somehow see our's as "not overturnable"

and then I'll care. I could've been watching granny's 1962 black and white last year and gotten the calls right that they somehow managed to see differently than the rest of the sight-blessed world.

Then you're all like "Cool. I can make out the individual blades of grass and chalk getting kicked up. That they are still ignoring."
