inside the Jackson Touchdown Club where Croom was keynote. Friend of mine is member. Sent me an e-mail report. Highlights:

1. Croom can still work a room and motivate sedentary white people.

2. He's frustrated with the start but senses greater passion out of the players following the LSU game. Lee showed Croom that he's ready to take over qb permanently.

3. In response to a question about how much time of his day is spent coaching versus admin, Croom said 80% is admin. He then went on to talk about Ray Perkins being head coach and calling all the plays at Bama when Croom was coaching LBs there. Said the defense coaches would leave the office at 9 pm during the season while the offense coaches would be waiting around til 11pm for Perkins to get through with admin crap so they could game plan. Croom then said that he refused to do that to his offense coaches which is why he doesn't call plays. My bud says he believes Croom was consciously throwing woody under the bus.

4. Elliot will go under the knife next week to repair ACL and "probably MCL." Expects him back for spring practice. [Kudos to cb6228 for calling the MCL as having been involved according to the video replay; helluva catch]. Homer Bruiser is doing cartwheels in celebration.

5. Croom was asked about recruiting needs. Need DL and WR. Was asked about decommits. Said basically who cares? Can get a WR on any street corner in Miami. Said we expect to keep the WR still committed. Said he "hopes" we hold on to our QB. [my bud said croom sounded shaky and there was an audible murmer thru the crowd]. Said elliot's injury means we will take 1 more RB. Update: I e-mailed my guy back and asked whether he could have been mis-interpreting what Croom said about "the QB commit." My guy said it was possible that he read too much into Croom's tone, delivery and body language, but it was one of the only times all night that Croom wasn't spouting false confidence. My guy genuinely believes there is something real there causing doubts. {Could it be that Russell is shaky because he is already aware that Woody's *** is gone? If so, why would he be anything but happy about that?].

6. Croom said "I'd put my house on LSU winning the MNC again."

7. Bob Tyler was there.

Edit to correct spelling of "Bama" and to add noted updates.

Regarding the QB comment. Unless he is just blowing smoke, Russell sound like he is as solid as they come. Go read the write up on the junction sounds like a good kid that already knows where he wants to go. I was not there but knowing Croom he was just stating that I hope we can hang onto our first real QB recruit in my 5 years as a HC.

Someone should have asked him what the hell he was smoking when he promoted a GA to ST coach.

Good to hear he was throwing Woody Mac under the bus, means Woodrow will be cashing out his MS retirament at year end.

If Elliot tore both ACL and MCL, he will be lucky to be back by Fall let alone Spring.

Does this mean we have a double secret WR commit walking the streets of Miami?

but I can't believe it happened unless I hear it for myself. I really hope he was but I remain skeptical.

To be totally honest. If Russell doesn't commit we really wouldn't be losing anything. Seen him play for two years, and I come away unimpressed.

the guy waltzed into Tuscaloosa for an Elite 8 camp and waltzed out with the MVP, and a verbal offer from Saban.

Like every other highly rated QB prospect we've ever signed, they can play pretty good before they get to campus.

against Wayne Co. two years in a row. Granted he didn't look good against your War Eagles, you have to admit he would be waaaay better than anything State has now. I don't care for the assertion that "we really wouldn't be losing anything"... Yes we would. We would be loosing the only legit QB prospect we have had in years.

/Dont you have a jet to be working on?

It's just a delayed blitz every down. Works every time in high school. He does fit the proto type Quarterback we need for as size and arm, but he can't handle pressure. No running speed.

If that's the case.....where are all these Miami wide receivers now? Why are 2 of our main wide receivers former walk ons?
