Nothing official but ESPN reports that the deal could be done as soon as Saturday.

This will be a huge blow to Texas. No clue where they turn now.

its like watching a chinese fire drill when universities try to hire a dang football coach.

i'd rather have someone people want to coach their ball team than vice versa.

Strong's chances to stay have increased dramatically but man that won't go over well in Texas at all.
Strong has to go with everything that has happened. This reminds me of the Les Miles situation last year. Kept hearing and kept hearing he was gone and then he wasn't and then end up firing him the next year.

couldn't imagine he'll be very motivated. the impression is they've treated him like ****. does he just take his regular check, then just wait for the buyout?

Sounds like Herman in bidding war. That starts to pi** me off on those deals. One shot at the big time and if it doesn't work out, big pay off and gone

What would be special is IF some huuuuge oil money alum decided to pony up the money for Houston to keep Herman there and neither LSU or Texas got him... I hear Bill Callahan is available.RollingLaughand I guess FHCBP would take LSU's calls.

If they can wait until January Kiffin is about ready for another kick at the can.
Don't think they need to wait until Jan if Kiffin is a target. That guy would leave tomorrow if given another shot.

But his next shot will not come from a top team.

Remember this is the same UT admin that got played by Mack a few years ago and they ended up with Strong instead of Saban. They overplayed their cards and didn't strike when the iron was hot. They should have fired him on Sunday of this past week.

A lot of schools waver a little on a decision like this and it allows the coach to scare up support from power brokers. Hell, the NU program is 18 months further into the tank because of not canning Biff soon enough.

I think Texas would have to get: Dabo, Jimbo or Petersen to make their fans and boosters happy.

Billionaire Tilman Fertitta, chairman of the Houston board of regents, said earlier this week he had no concerns about money being a deciding factor to keep Herman.

"I do not fear a bidding war for Tom," Fertitta said. "We're not going to lose him over money."
