At the end of Stansbury's post-game press conferences, when the SID would step in and say "Any more questions for Coach?" Rick would always ask "Where's Don? I haven't gotten a question from him...Come on, Don. I know you've got something." Then Don would proceed to ask what seemed to have been on his mind since the buzzer sounded. Not always a great question, but usually a pretty damn good one. Even if Don was not there, Stans would always look around for him "Is Don not here tonight?" Those will always be some of my favorite press room memories. When Don wrote about Starkville High (or any local high school/middle school), he always took the time (and column space) to try and get as many kids' names in his story as he could. The depth of his stories may have sometimes suffered because of that, but I'm sure the feeling it gave the kids was well worth it to Don....And that says a hell of a lot about the kind of guy Don Foster was.
