Watching the Sox vs the Yanks … got me thinking about how much real hatred used to be amongst these teams. I’m talking teams that 17n HATED each other so; I’m asking you guys, what old school rivalries have just faded?

I’ll just start any debate:

Red Sox vs Yanks
Packers vs Bears
Celtics vs Lakers (Do they really care)?
Colts vs Patriots (That was just the QBs)
Note Dame vs USC (Does ND care anymore)
Cowboys vs Giants
Oklahoma vs Nebraska (OK cares less)
FSU vs Miami (topped out in what 2008)
Y’all help me out!

Red Sox vs Yankees hate is still very much there. Went to a game at Fenway last year when they were playing. It's intense.

I looked over and my third grade daughter was doing the "yankees suck" chant with the crowd. That's not something we normally let the young ones say, but the wife and I decided on the spot for a Fenway exception.

I do think pro sports rivalries in general are more cyclical.

Red Sox/Yankees is the obvious one that comes to mind. It seems like from 00-09 there wasn't a series that was played that they didn't have some type of fight.

Celtics/Lakers is another good one but that one died out in the 80s.

OU/Texas seems a lot more tame than it used to.

I really think the Egg Bowl toxicity has died down a lot as well. I mean it was HOT from 09-19 and really hit it's high water mark of my lifetime in 19. Ever since Lane got to Ole Miss it has died down a lot. Leach being here had a lot to do with that one. I think Lebby wants to bring a little of the chippiness back though

Florida vs Tennessee was THE rivalry in the SEC in the 90’s and early 2000’s. CBS always picked it for its one prime time game a year. But now it has been a while since they were both really good at the same time.

Georgia-Florida comes to mind. Seems like the "largest outdoor cocktail party" used to be a big deal, but has been pretty irrelevant for a minute.

I attended a USC VS NOTRE DAME game in the coliseum many years ago. Both were highly ranked and it was supposed to be a big deal. Pitiful lame a$$ excuse for a football atmosphere if I ever saw one. USC fans didn’t give a flip and the ND fans were a bunch of drunk morons. It was a huge disappointment. USC fans if you want to call them that didn’t deserve to even have a team. Typical California lazy a$$ idiots.

Several of the old SWC / Big 8 rivalries are dead - Bedlam is no more. KU- Mizzou no more. Colorado and Nebraska was a big game in the late 80's and early 90's. They are not even in the same Conference now. OU-Nebraska in the 70's and 80's is what Bama and LSU has been the past 15 years and what UT-Florida was in the 90's. Tennessee and Alabama was on life support, but a resurgent Tennessee and a weakened Alabama has brought it back.
