The scary thing is TA had been terrible on short passes. This offense sounds a lot like the West Coast Ganz thrived in, but he was much better at the short passes than TA. I hoped Riley would tailor the offense this year to the talent on hand but it doesn't sound like that's what's happening.

Hopefully there's a middle ground. Shawn Watson loved a couple of screen passes so much that smart defenders like Franks watched for them. Tim Beck didn't seem to remember that screen passes existed.

Not sure they should be a staple of the offense but fantastic change of pace that the defense has to worry about, it can slow down a rush if nothing else.

If we run screen passes consistently, what will I yell about tothe TV all year? Because it seemed like that was the topic of about every 3rd sentence I said when I was upset last year.

I never understood why Beck refused to use screen passes. The OL would be getting burned because the D was pinning their ears back and blitzing and hardly a screen was called. I am not an expert, but a screen or a draw can work wonders against a blitz.

As has been said above, we just don't have the QB for the play. Short passes just aren't the long suit. Fade, go, flag, seam routes.....better. Screen, out, crossing routes....not so much.

Yea after 4 practices of nothing but install, it is completely clear that Riley will force an offense that does not fit. #seemsreasonable

TA was a 63% passer from 8 to 10 yards last year. Needs to get that up to 70%.

Joe Ganz said yesterday that the offense looks almost identical to the West Coast offense he ran under Callahan, but perhaps you know better.

I am aware what Joe said. Great he can tell what is going to happen all season during an install practice. Joe has always been truthfull, and has no axe to grind at all. All the Bloners are foaming at the mouth because of it. It is absolutely hilarious.

Doesn't mean a lot just watching one single practice. Could have been a heavy pass install day for all we know.

Rielly said he will tailor the offense to the strengths of his team, I will trust what he said over what Ganz saw in 2 hours.

If he forces things that aren't working, I will be one of the first to turn on him. Just like with Blo, and his twin Clownahan. That's the thing. I am a Husker fan, not a fan of the coach only, especially one that trashes traditions like the last 2 coaches did.

The middle screen to Corey Ross is about the only thing I seem to have fond memories of from that time period.

Agreed with that but I won't make any assumptions until I see enough game situations to make an informed opinion. Coach Reilly deserves that much from us.

to be fair, the practice that was run was one where they cut the defense loose, meaning they sent the defense after them to see how the quarterbacks would react under pressure. The result was a domino effect that we saw in prior games in previous years. To me, that is a smart coaching move to at least see what happens under those conditions before game day so one can look to get it fixed. How you fix that, I am not so sure.. coach them up? Mental toughness issue? I am not sure how you get guys to respond differently when under duress.

Joe Ganz has sounded butt hurt for the last 6 months.
Maybe it's his little pony tail he's got these days?

I still like Joe. He was a pretty good QB for us. Wish he'd never thrown that damn pass right to the Texas Tech defender tho...

I thank Joe Ganz for his efforts; but a lot of the passes TA has trouble with, he also would in spurts. He seemed to throw an interception or near so about every game over the middle. He may have been making more of a general comment, I would hope. Also, I hope he isn't buying into his increasing historical greatness. ....... Sure it was a lot of testing with heavy pass install/ testing. Hard to jump on the coaches when they are shaking their heads; with balls spraying around, as receivers break open. Yes its early; and this group goes out of its way to adapt, at times in ways many of us don't get to see the basis for or even have the backround.
