Haven’t figured Rhule out yet. I think he is way in over his head. Seems he either is not a good judge of talent or he cannot close on the talent he needs. His first staff was pretty weak and it’s gone downhill since. I don’t think I would pay him a buy out, I’d just hire another coach to actually coach and let Rhule have the big office. And I think Buffett could will NU a gazillion $s and Rhule would be .500 coach.

I'm going with the under. Think he has to get to at least 8 wins next year. Personally don't see 8. With the schedule coming up, 6 would be a miracle. To get 8 he'd have to do something he's shown he's incapable of, beat ranked teams.

Guessing if he doesn't reach at least 8, he'll be run out of town. If the current AD won't pull the trigger then he needs to go too and the next AD can "clean up the mess" as Ruhle would say.
1. Boosters and big donors will have to be very pissed...that is a big unknown
2. The guy they complain to will have to care about Nebraska football. Guys in those positions, especially at Nebraska may not care about the football team as much as the overall athletic department. The rest of the sports are doing quite well.
3. The AD will have to care about winning football games. Some ADs, ours seemingly, are much more into the athletic department finances and fiscal health than winning. Our fiscal health is fine, the stadium is mostly full, over revenue is high, the AD compares favorably to other big 10 schools. We are good enough.
4. The AD will have to crunch the numbers and find that Rhule is costing 5-10 million a year by being ***. If we had a slightly better coach it would have to lead to a lot more money...not likely. The AD isn't going to expect to hit a home run.
5. Donors give 80 million a year...if he hears that this may drop by 10 million a year for the next 5 years, an 80 million buyout isn't so bad.

I pity the people that will spend the next 2 plus years complaining about something that is supposed to be enjoyable.

To me it is akin to continuing to take the annual ski trip, knowing your body is going to hurt like hell, that your kids are going to be a pain in the ***, that everything is going to cost way too much, that your wife is going to annoy the **** out of you. And you still go every year, hating it, and bitching about the ski trip leading up to the trip and then after. DONT ******* GO if you don't have fun.

If Nebraska football is so annoying and causes you so much pain and mental discomfort, find a new hobby.

Fans complain…. Rightfully so. Has always happened in every sport for every team. Nothing new.

If other people's posts are annoying and cause you so much pain and mental discomfort, maybe stop posting here.

See how that works?
Because I can put people on ignore and still enjoy my time here. See how that works? Nope because you can't stop bitching and moaning and Rhule is not going anywhere, so the things you want to ignore are here for 2 more years. You lasted until this post.

I don’t disagree … BUT … read the room following that decision and don’t make it a key speaking point.

Okay - I want to support our coach but there are a couple of things that are really rubbing me the wrong way lately.

1. I always complimented Rhule’s conviction for his process and taking immediate ownership of the team.
— Now he’s telling everyone how big of a mess he had to clean up and puts blame on previous staff three years in???

2. Interviewer lobs a softball “what do you tell recruits to get them sold on Nebraska?”
—City, fans, facilities bla bla bla. Then goes on to say that we are playing 6 rated teams next year and coming to Nebraska you have a chance to play the best! Put some stuff on top tape against the best. Hey - I gotta a wild idea - why don’t you tell them we are going to be the best?? Get to play the best? What in the world?

3. Goes on to talk about the foxhole and he wants people that want to be here. The says he “wants” to be here while pounding the table. Could not be more hypocritical to take that approach after you flirt with other schools… supposedly and use that as leverage for the extension and buyout. Is that what “wanting to be here” looks like?

4. All these Coordinators and assistants turning over. Not aware of a program that has had 3 DC’s in 3 years, 2 OC’s and 3 Special teams. No good looks on this one at all.

5. Bottom line - he tried to build a team from youngsters when the winning formula has been full grown men in the portal. He acknowledges that at least in the interview.

I want to believe … we need a miracle next year with our schedule. Rhule is going to feel some boo birds next year if this thing doesn’t look way different.

His words are surface, and offer no substance. Rhule is a carnival barker.

apparently that is not true. If you didn't care, you wouldn't have replied to me.

Matt isn't a football coach. He is a salesman and has done a wonderful job securing his families future.
When the man justified his extension and extra pay by saying the football program would also have enough money to spend on NIL with the big boys, then turns around and says we don’t when it’s time to spend NIL, you’ve got to question his morals. He has no morals.

imagine a CEO getting a pay bump and telling his tired workforce that their was enough money at the end of the year for bonuses and to hire additional staff to relieve the extra burden of work. Then year end comes and he says we don’t have enough money. Makes it seem like his original speech was a line of BS so people wouldn’t be mad that he got a pay increase

Normal people: come here to post about Nebraska football

You: come here to post about other posters

See the difference yet?
No, Nebraska football is rarely discussed, It is just bitching about the coach and how he sucks and what you would do in your fantasy world where you have a say in how things are run. Then the obligatory comparison to some other time in history. Of course there is the looking back at players and coaches who left and the multiple threads that ensue.

Except his money and their money don't come from the same pot. So irrelevant to compare the two.

I don't hold it against anyone for making whatever $$$$ they can.

However, it's been about 10 minutes since he leveraged the Penn State opening into an extension.

Although it's his right to leverage that situation however he wants, he should shut his piehole altogether about how he wants to be here / how loyal he is to the program.

His actions speak much louder than those words, and his loud insistence that his loyalty is to Nebraska is disengenuous.
He is a poodle

For simple people who aren’t creative with how to move money, sure buddy. 👍

I work with donors and moving pledge money around. I’ve explained this many times. Yes it can be done. And it is done. I known two sec teams that moved build out pledges out of the university and into NIL.Just don’t think you’re bright enough to understand.

just go back to your snacks. The adults are talking

Matt the Hat talks about the mess he had to clean-up when he got to Lincoln and now, he wants to turn the clock back three years and get a fresh new start. What kind of mess do you think he will leave for the next coach when one of the leaders of UNL with half a brain finally makes the decision, no matter the financial cost, to kick Matt and his lies out-of-town?

It will be a huge mess, just like it has been since 2014. but dont't fret Spinner will get his donor friends to pay for it all, they will just move it from one pot to another. It's fine..

Also, Rhule's extension did not cost anyone any extra money in 2026. It was a simple extension for 2 years. Salary remained the same, same 90% guarantee if fired without cause. That money isn't spent, so once again, his extension had no bearing on how much Nebraska can spend on players.

Good point on Rhule being “trapped” here and not really wanting to be here. I think he is really starting to feel the heat. I think he is starting to feel the fans turning against him. And he knows he doesn’t have the athletes to turn this around next year. His portal class was decent but only that. It is not a portal class that screams out “turnaround coming soon!”

His public comments are getting increasingly defensive and edgy. But who will hire him at a salary commensurate with what we are paying? At this point he would be looking at a very low level school and they won’t pay him what we are.

But what the heck? We have given him tens of millions. And for what? A lifetime’s worth of spit.
I will say again, Big Ten, Big 12, Big Sky, it doesn't matter. Matt the Hat is not a good coach. I see former Husker coach Ryan Held coached UNK to a 6-5 record. Not sure Matt could do better than that in Kearney.

But you said the two don’t come from the same pot. Why are you justifying the expenditure as one as long term and one as short-term if they aren’t connected to the same “pot”? Different balance sheet right?

Nighty night fat boy. Hope you have sweet dreams about your fellow fatty friend Rhule

Depends how he loses games if the losses are like Minnesota pedo st Iowa and Utah they will find the money, say he goes 6-6 with all the losses are 10 points and the team really shows big improvement he gets another year
You really think the Ohio State, Indiana and Oregon game will be as close as 10 points? I don't. What I can see happening is the team plays halfway well against Ohio (that game just might be close. After all they did win their bowl, against our new golden boy, Colandrea)), North Dakota and Bowling Green. Matt the Hat will be pounding the table and shouting "No one believed in us!". Then sometime in late September, Indiana comes to town and blows the socks off the Huskers, and it is all downhill from there.

You may be on to something. Just give him a little bitty office in the basement with a tiny desk and chair. He can count his money all day because that is all he really cares about. Give him a title like Senior Head Football Coach Emeritus. He can have his podcast and weekly talks with Pat McAfee. Then go out and hire a real head coach to run the team and keep the Hat as far away from the team at all times. He can sit in the box with Tom during the games.

In my defense I have been a total Rhule supporter his entire tenure - but after the year 3 let down I’m merely pointing out that things that made me admire him as a coach in the beginning are changing significantly as the heat is ratcheted up. These are noticeable changes and difficult to defend.

I don’t want to go through a coaching change again - I want to see progress. I want Rhule to be successful. There seems to be an about face happening.

I’m not sure he had anything to do with it other than accepting the extension. I’m inclined to believe that it was all his agent recognizing an opportunity and capitalizing on it.
That's on him. Do you think his agent did that on his own? Would you fire an agent that did that?

I doubt he would have more than 2 wins at a UNK. Ryan Held knows exactly what he wants his program to be like and works hard to make it that way and he sticks to it. I’d have to look it up but he has had wins over top 25 teams.

Depends on if he can hold 27 class together after not being bowl eligible
