May be German, but I don't remember anybody discussing the wisdom of this play, not even the FOX Sports TV crew. UGA was down 6 - 17 with almost 4 minutes to go and they try a 4th & 10 play and we pressured a bad throw by their QB. A couple of plays later we are in the endzone with the final nail in the coffin. Richt should have punted, hoped for a muffed punt return or a 3 and out by his defense. Four minutes can be a long time in football.

I thought it was dumb. At that point the game was still in question. If he was closer to mid-field I could see it, but he gift wrapped the game with that call.

because he not only had four minutes of game time, but he also had three time outs.

But at the same time, I can see where he was coming from. You get the first down, against a team that has come oh so close and you start to plant some duobt in their minds a little bit. And they had some success through the air against us. Plus, their defense was worn down. We had just gone 93 yards on them, basically running over them.

But again, it was fourth a five, but they committed a false start, and that made it fourth and ten, so again they killed themselves with penalties.

Honestly, it was a tough call.

for it. If he punted and got 3 and out then he would have gotten the ball back in the same spot with less than two minutes unless he burned all of his timeouts.

I agree.

Richt felt his best chance was to go for it. He felt that his guy completing a pass for a first down was better than a muffed punt. His defense just gave up a 6 minute drive and was tired and he may have never gotten the ball back. He could have decided the other way and it could have been justified as well. He just felt to give his team the best chance of winning was to go for it.

of what he was already going to get had he not "gone for it". I am sure he got lit up after game and is still probably getting seered, but had he not had the balls to keep trying to win the game at that point it would have added fuel to the fire.
