I never thought much of his coaching while he was at Texas and actually thought Tennessee made a huge mistake when they hired him.

But, I watched them yesterday and his game plan vs PJ Washington was excellent - the big initially guarding him took away him turning to his left and the off ball mid-line defender would help and double when he turned to go right. It forced Washington to kick to shooters opposite ball side for many missed three point opportunities.

I think it’s an excellent blue print (pun intended) to beat the kitties.

Barnes is a good coach. Not flashy. IDK (or C) why it never happened for him at UT.

Barnes has never been accused of being a great coach. His time in Texas was mixed - he was able to land a lot of top shelf talent and with that came high expectations. He kind of did less with more in that situation though he did make NCAAs and had some post season success, one FF not so bad.

What's interesting about his new situation @ Tenn, is he's now doing more with less - there aren't top recruits on his roster. He's still at a football school, but I think Tenn is probably getting a re-energized coach here. Will be interesting to see what this group does in the NCAAs, and it will also be interesting to see if Barnes sustains success there.

Any contribution he can make to fueling UK fan anger is okay by me!

I was in Houston last week working on a project and the Project Manager was a Texas grad. I asked him why Barnes was not successful at Texas but was at Tennessee and Smart had great success elsewhere but is struggling at Texas. He said what everybody already knows and that is they have too many donors calling the shots. He said most of the donors never really wanted CCS and they were upset when he started bringing in Florida talent over Texas talent.
