apparently there was a serious pissing contest at the presser when Sid went on TV but was still not allowed to talk to reporters. If you want to waste 5 minutes of your life, go to their web page and read.

He has an opportunity to say this: "While I'm proud of the gradual improvements he has made in his game, Sidney has proven since he got here that he isnt ready to speak as a representative of this team through many different actions. I willstrictly regulate when and where he can.You dont like it? Tough. My team, my decision. "

Stans didnt do that. He wanted to talk about how the kid would 'lose a war' with the media because he's too young. Stans just sounds weak and scared.

department say he cannot speak to the press. Either way, I think he should be allowed to talk-Besides, what does he have to lose? Short of hitting a reporter, which many of us would like to do, he has nowhere to go but up..............

in his power to portray us and Sidney in a very positive light just like he always has in the past.

making the decision would welcome him saying that too. Looks better if the coach is taking credit for this even if it isnt his ultimate decison.

saying there were no real probing questions asked by the SEC Network. Paraphrasing, they did not ask about the fight in Hawaii norhis re-tweetingof Ravern's tweets after the Bama game...these are the questions reporters have been wanting to ask for weeks. Why put a young man on the "hot seat" when you do not have to do so? Cleveland and the other reporters were just mad because Sidney was allowed to do a tv interview (bet that doesn't happen again) and they could not ask their "probing" questions. It is Stansbury's decision not to put him in the room with a bunch of reporters who will pounce on him like a bunch of hungry wolves. It is kinda like a situation in which an attorney can choose to put his client on the witness stand, and he knows the other side is going to rip him apart. Unfortunately, the CL reporting staff is the "other" side in this case, and Stansbury knows it.

Right now his job is to keep Sidney focused on basketball. Constantly having to ask questions about all of the nonsense that has gone on will not help his cause. By all means, keep him away until the season ends

The SEC Network is paying us millions of dollars to show our games on TV. When they ask to do a sotfball interview with one of your players, saying no really isn't an option.

Sports writers are a pretty lazy lot, or they would have real jobs. Rick said it himself, they wanted to ask questions about the "fight", the "tweet". These situations have been hashed and rehashed, but it would make for easy writing for them to be able to do it once more from a 1st person account.

From last account I read, he didn't have any favorable comments on his column.

Maybe coach34 doesn't read the paper, or he would agree with him.

********.
They pay because they find value in the SEC as a partner, not because with paying they get access to players that isn't typical.

Tons of teams don't allow freshmen to interview. This should basically just apply to first year players for MSU. Our junios and seniors still can't even keep from jamming their feet in their mouths, so banning first year players from interviewing should be standard.

The SEC network deserves it? F that. What an absurd comment.

Who said anything about the SEC Network (ESPN) paying for access to players? Of course they're paying for the product on the court. It's ridiculous to even suggest that anyone would say otherwise. But along with that they get a lot more. Things like: 1) influence over the schedule (even dictating the schedule at times), 2) restrictions on how much other media outlets can blog or tweet during games, 3) halftime coach's interviews (I don't see Rick Cleveland bitching that he couldn't interview Stans at halftime), and 4) the softball player interview at the end of the game. Could we have told ESPN they couldn't interview Sidney? Probably. But for the money ESPN is paying, you don't say no to them often. The absurd thing is to naively think that ESPN's money isn't getting them anything more than the actual games they broadcast.

Maybe if he would write a positive MSU article every now and then, maybe he would get better access.

No, I'm not a Clarion-Ledger conspiracy theorist in that I don't think they hate us. But as I have always said, I would like to see some more POSITIVE MSU articles from time to time.

And why does Cleveland need a quote from Sidney to write his opinion anyway?

He should know better- I remember that there was a journalist that covered the Yankees back in the 1970's that was always trying to get Billy Martin fired. Well, guess what? Eventually Martin cut him off completely.

That's all MSU has to do. Just tell the Clarion-Ledger to cut it out or lose access.

Im not Stans Fan, but at this point this is the best thing to do, limit the players access to the media, play the us vs. the world theme, work toward the NIT, and hope we have Sid and Bost to make a run next year....<div>

Ellis and the media posse was videoed like the snafu when Kiffin resigned from UT was. The unintentional comedy of guys like Rick Cleveland, David Brandt, Marcello, Danny Smith and Jim Mashek being involved in a "tense" situation or "heated" argument, as it has been described, over Sidney's availability would have been off the charts.

C'mon guise. Rick Cleveland is a pathetic, pathetic excuse for a journalist. Unfortunately, that's all this state has pretty much. Rick Cleveland's articles are like a friggan blog of his personal life. Ridiculous.

No one friggan cares, Rick. Do us all a favor and go throw yourself into oncoming traffic.

And I don't know whats more pathetic, Rick Cleveland's sorry azz excuse for a life or grave diggger hopping on his nuts and using his Rick's dumbazzness to parlay his own dumbazzness into another Stans bashing thread.

....was when Cleveland said he had his "Stans has won five straight and 20 out of 27 against Ole Miss" column ready to go until this all happened.

Sounds like we got cheated out of the "why would you fire this guy who's done so much?" column. It's okay, though, we'll get it sometime in the next three weeks.

but give it the 17 up.

Leaders are easy to spot. They dont let their bosses take the blame for anything. They dont let their subordinates dictate what they will and wont do. They are clear

Rick is trying to appeal to people's sympathy rather than his own standards. Same as he does when we lose.

"oh my it was that technical fould that accounted for the 19 point skid."

"oh the kid is too young to handle the media"

17 that.

Here's the reason a leader gives: "It doesnt help my team:". "It's my decision and that is all you need to know".

He does that and the questions turn to game issues.

which is a WHOLE other issue he is 17ing lost about.

Cleveland is clearly pissed that He has not been able to question RS.
I say screw him.

It is not in RS's, nor MSU's best interest to appease this bastard.
