Rick Cleveland, the great and almighty defender of all MSU failures, has spoken.........

.....this morning on the issue of calls to fire Croom. Naturally, it's what you would expect.

It's gonna cost ya

We have to wonder how many of those same critics would chip in a few thousand bucks to pay the more than $3 million to buy out Croom and his assistants - and a few more thousand to raise a few more million to hire another coach and another staff?

Not many, I'd wager.

I'd wager you're terribly wrong Rick. I've seen and heard many people say they'd be more than happy to put up money to help the cause. Me included.

And we also must wonder: How much of this carping would we hear had State made a 27-yard field goal and beaten Kentucky last Saturday?

Probably not nearly so much, I'd wager.

Again, I'd wager you're terribly wrong. Please tell me you're not a betting man Rick, because you're going to go broke fast. In case your bloated head hasn't noticed, a win over UK would still mean MSU is only 4-5 including a loss to La. Tech, and other losses that would have been wins if only we had an offense in year 5 under Croom. You must be confusing the critics with the MSU sheep, because they're the ones who would be giddy right now if we'd beaten UK.

A $3 million buyout should be pretty easy. On the other hand, what would the cost be to MState if their season ticket sales and concessions were way down in a year where Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss come to town (this is normally the year Miss. State rakes in a ton of money to cover the shortfall of the years only Auburn and Arkansas visit).

Cleveland is such a Ole Miss homer (everyone was stating how he hated Ole Miss b/c of the Ogeron article but in actauallity he wanted them more competitive by getting a new coach) of course keep Croom so we can continue our spiral swirl down the toilet bowl.

How dumb is Rick gonna look when Cohen wins a national championship. We'll no be reminded about how Polk got us to the CWS as late as 2007.

Come to think of it - what the hell was 2007 made of? That was quite the fluke year for us. A CWS appearance by an over-the-hill baseball coach and a bowl appearance by our keystone cops group of coaches.

No. 3, the biggest problem with State's offense isn't so much the scheme as it is having the right quarterback to run it. (And yes, I know Croom has had five years to recruit that guy.)
Most people would say that the most important single position on the field is QB. And yet, the best QB Crxxm has recruited in 5 years is one who didn't even have a scholarship from any Div. I-A school, not even Mississippi State. And then he's compounded that by hiring one of his best friends to coach those QBs, even though he'd never coached QBs in his life before coming to MSU.

This one thing pretty much speaks for Rick's abilities - I took him to task on his own blog in 2007 after we made it to the CWS.

quote: "If I were Sly Croom, I'd probably say: "You don't like it, just write me that check and I'll go fishing and play golf. No more 18-hour days. No more recruiting against Alabama and LSU. No more heckling from Monday morning quarterbacks."

That's exactly the way Croom is now. That's exactly the way he feels. That's the way it has always been. This is the affordability factor. He can afford to be that way. He is way too comfortable with what he is doing. He has a ridiculous contract with a ridiculous salary. And we are lowly MSU. We're not expected to win. He didn't want to come here. There is no pressure to him. This is a fat paycheck for him. He could care less. With his contract and his salary comes NO accountability. He can afford to do nothing, change nothing, and not care what the fans think.

Me, on the other hand, I can't afford to perform with the level of success he brings. I'm middle income. I don't have a guaranteed contract OR BUYOUT that I can fall back on. If I performed with the amount of success Croom has had, I'd be gone yesterday. I have to perform, and I strive for it. Croom, YOU DO NOT. And guess what, I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK EITHER.

Actually Rick comes from a USM background. I believe his father was sports information director there years and years ago.

Current ticket price: $40.00
Croom stays next year-anticipated season ticket sales at best: 25,000
Total revenue: $1,000,000.00

Croom fired, a "Chris Peterson" brought in.
New Ticket price: $48.00
Expected minimum season ticket sales: 40,000
Total new revenue: $1,920,000.00

Difference of close to a million in revenue. There is 1/3 of the payout to the walrus. Go to the alumni get the another million. Look at increasing club and suite level rates and expanding club level to the West side. If club level went from $1,000 to even $1,500 per seat that alone would probably bring in, based on what I believe to be at least 1,500 seat in east club level, an additional $750,000.
You are well over half way there with those two-ticket and bulldog club increases.

I don't think anyone on here would refuse to pay more for a proven winner!

Add to that the ESPN contract and we are back in the black and moving forward, just like with Cohen.

No way that fat @%!% can play golf.
He might have shoes and ride in a cart, but that is it.
I'd be glad to play him a round for his job...

You did a good job of calculating the PER GAME difference in revenue. But we have 7 home games next season. The $920,000 revenue difference times 7 home games comes to a total revenue difference for the season of $6,440,000, or more than twice what the buyout would cost us. I will say that I think your estimates of a 15,000 difference in season ticket sales and an $8 difference in price per game are both high. But your basic point that the buyout would pay for itself is a good one. It's not that we can't afford to fire Crxxm. We can't afford NOT to fire him.

I was pretty irate when I was crunching those numbers. I don't think anyone in their right mind would mind paying an additional 56.00 for a Chris Peterson to come here. With your new math, we could pay off Croom and probably get Peterson for around 2 mill. That's double then what he's making now and still come out in the black. I do feel that with the waiting list on the suites and club level, those need to be raised, regardless of who is there. I sit in the club level and it's quite the bargain compared to our fellow SEC members, with the exception of Vandy. Hell, Fla. wants 5k before you can get a season ticket, and I've fought that statement on here before.

Best case scenario for State: The Bulldogs play well in their final three games, win a couple, show marked improvement offensively, and the naysayers quiet down.

_________________________________________________
this isnt the best case scenario. in this scenario, he most likely wouldnt have to change much of anything, if at all.
the best case scenario is that MSU wins out and changes are still made.

No more heckling from Monday morning quarterbacks
And you're to much of a coward to give him the proper heckling he deserves in the CL on Monday, or any other day of the week.

Best case scenario for State: The Bulldogs play well in their final three games, win a couple, show marked improvement offensively, and the naysayers quiet down.

Worst case: The Bulldogs continue to stumble offensively, lose three straight and the intensity of the criticism increases, thus forcing those difficult decisions.

To State fans that like saying Best Case Scenario: it's only a mild recession. Worst Case Scenario: we go into a depression.
