From VZ's blog when asked about Wendell Smith's ability to contribute this year:

"If there's a question I have going in that's not answered, that's probably that question."

I've come close to forgetting entirely who this guy is. And sadly the same with Shaunessy Smith who I do think will be real good one day. The whole Riek and Sidney signing has pushed those other 2 way off of the map it seems like.

Does anyone know about Lewis and does he have some upside?</p>

....and someone correct me if I'm wrong, is that Wendell's absolute maximum potential is to be a Erwin Dudley/Lawrence Roberts-type player. That is, he will never make his living off of superior athletic ability or slick offensive moves, but has the frame and work ethic to be a dominant rebounder/good defender/decent scorer in the SEC by the time he's finished.

is pretty high on Lewis' long term potential. He is supposed to be very strong and fairly thick for a freshman. I think most of his moves are around the basket as opposed to being able to step away for shots. He is in a dream situation for a young post player. He gets to go up against three potential NBA players in Varnado, Sidney and Riek in practice every day.

If Lewis is anything like Dudley or Roberts game wise, that is incredible since both Dudley and Roberts were both SEC Player of the Year.

Maybe the comparisons are a tad bit high, maybe lets start with Lincoln Smith comparison or Elgin Bailey as a frosh,

he decommited from MTSU and had offers from Auburn and Western Kentucky. He also said he had an offer from Alabama and Ole Miss, but they weren't listed on scout. I saw his stats and he didn't have that many points per game, but he had a lot of rebounds. He should be able to play a little bit this year and get some rebounds. He sounds like an Elgin Bailey.

Not where he is right now. Meaning, Wendell isn't some NBA talent (Roberts and Dudley were not) but he's big and strong and if he maximizes his potential he could be a player in the mold of Roberts or Dudley.

That is still pretty strong comparisons even if he maxed out his potentional, 2 SEC POY's???

I doubt the ceiling is that high for this kid.....Sidney and Riek yes, they have that potentional.
