Riek Expectations

From what I have heard, he was potentially going to be the number 1 pick in the NBA draft 2 years ago right? From the videos I have seen he looks like Marcus Campbell all over again. What are some realistic expectations for tonight (Points/Rebounds/Minutes)?

Greg Oden and Kevin Durant had way more draft status than Reik. Reik would have been an NBA pick if he didn't hurt his knee at that time. Probably late first round or second round.

I heard Stansbury speak a while back and he said that Reik could possibly foul out in 5 minutes because of his adjusting to the speed of the game. He is still learning terms like "ball screen" and other things. Reik will play about 6-10 minutes tonight. Stansbury said that Wright State is a bad team for Reik to start off against because of the way they play their big men.

My prediction:

0 pts
8 minutes
5 rebounds
2 blocks
4 fouls

He'll get better.

With the way we've been playing recently, I think he might could end up getting 8 to 10 minutes. He will get a 2 or 4 points and a couple boards probably. I'm concerned with how up to game speed he's gonna be. I have a bad feeling he may be pretty slow. Jarvis loves to get back to the other end after a made basket, but I'm afraid Riek may be slow getting back, which may open up the middle for some easy baskets for Wright State. It probably won't matter, but once we get to SEC play it may be a bigger deal.

Being the first game for Riek, the only way he gets more than 5 minutes is if we open a huge lead and he gets the garbage time. We are playing so well right now and Riek has got 4 years to play so there is not need to rush him onto the court at the risk of our chemistry that we seem to have finally found.

5 Minutes or less. Hopefully, no turnovers. Any amount of points and rebounds would be great.

I predict he misses at least one layup in the warm up drills. He will get in about two minutes in the first half. He will get one pass to him, and he holds the ball low around his waist. The ball will be promptly swatted out of his hands by someone considerably smaller. Rick will try to pull him out quickly seeing that he is a liability. He gets one defensive rebound before being pulled.

I expect him to have some rough patches but to mostly be a defensive player. I don't anticipate him scoring much at all. But if he can get us rebounds and blocks without turning the ball over too much he'll be fine.

I think he'll get 5 minutes tonight to rest Varnado.

But I would not be too quick to judge Riek based off of tonight's performance. Every indication that I have read says that he is a hard worker and he will probably improve dramatically over time. Speaking of improvement, anyone remember Jarvis as a freshman? The difference is night and day now.

If he can develop, he has a chance to possibly be a very good player in a year or two. For tonight, I'm going to say

5 min
2 points
3 rebounds
1 block
3 fouls

Without a big lead, I don't think he plays very much at all. Less than 5 minutes, if any. No points, 1 rebound or so with a couple of fouls.

He is light and day from Campbell. Riek actually looks to dunk the ball at anytime. Campbell would rather bank it of the backboard.
Riek is aggressive and it will show tonight. He plays 10 min. 6 pts, 5 rebounds, 2 turnovers & 4 fouls.

Riek is half the athlete Marcus Campbell was. I know that sounds impossible, but it's true. It may be attributable to Riek's injury, but anyone who saw any of our preseason scrimmages can attest to the fact that he had a lotta trouble gettin', know what I'm sayin'? I think I could stand at one baseline and he could stand at the other, we take off running, and I think I could make it down and back before he made it down once. He's that goofy. The guy is a project. He MIGHT turn into something by his Junior year, but Marcus Campbell had a better chance than he does. Sorry folks.

I am saying that he is aggressive on both ends of the court. It just might take him a little while to get there.. Excuse me for being optimistic. Would would you like for me to say? That Riek sucks and should go back to Sudan? you are welcome.
