Boy! Somebody at Mississippi is "Johnny on the spot."
After I made the original post on this subject, I came back about an hour and a half later and the thread had been locked AND somebody had re-edited the Swayze Field Wikipedia entry to remove the phrase that apparently offended them. And, no, I didn't edit the Wikipedia entry to make it say that in the first place; I just
happened to notice it. In fact, I've never edited anything on
Wikipedia.
I still don't understand why the other thread was locked but I'm not bent out of shape about it. If I broke any Six Pack rules, I didn't intend to. Sorry!
I will give Mississippi their due, though, about hosting Regionals and Super Regionals. The have, in fact, hosted Regionals and Super Regionals since we have. We haven't hosted one since we won our Super Regional in 2007 against Clemson while setting the two all-time highest attendance records for Super Regionals in NCAA history (thanks partially to the Left Field Lounge) and going to Omaha. Yes, I know we didn't win a game in Omaha that year but at least we made it there. If memory serves me correctly, I believe we have been to the CWS more recently (2007) and more often (8 times vs. 4 times) than Mississippi since I believe that their last appearance was about 38 years ago in 1972.
I must say also that Mississippi certainly does have a better team this year than we do. Best of luck to them except for the series this weekend.
