Overrated: Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech

"Most of this section is directed at the coaches/SIDs for failing to see who's an average team even if it's a program that may have had success in the past. First off, though, we'll start with Mississippi State, which checks in at No. 21 in the AP and No. 19 in the coaches' with the only notable win being at home against an average Auburn squad. It has not impressed the past two weeks against inferior opponents and may be getting the benefit of the doubt because it's in the SEC. This appears to be a solid team but we really don't know how good it is and the Bulldogs simply shouldn't be ranked above teams like Rutgers or in the top 20."

Right now I would have to say he is right. Hopefully the dawgs will take in up a notch or two in the coming weeks. Where's the swag??

I agree with what he said, but disagree with how he said. Why shouldn't we be ranked over "teams" like Rutgers? Who have Rutgers beaten to make them that much more deserving to be ranked higher? They beat a bad Arkansas team and a mediocre USF team and didn't exactly blowout a Tulane team. I don't really see too many teams that we're ahead of that should be higher than us.

Idiot! How good is Rutgers? Dumbass seems to know that doesn't he. Victories over Tulane(24-12) Howard? (26-0), South Florida(23-13), Arkansas(34-26). Yeah, they are a real powerhouse! Sounds like an SEC hater or Rutgers' Alum!

Joe Teasitore we saying the same damn thing last week about how we beat an Aubun team that wasn't special and nobody else and didn't deserve to e ranked. He made this known like 3 times but never mentioned another team that was supposedly getting snubbed. Dumbass everyone has a weak schedule at the jump, our Auburn win should stand out more than everyone else's schedule around us that was supposedly snubbed.

Go ahead and get used to it.

If we end up 7-0 he, and many others in the media, will be saying we're the worst 7-0 team in the country and are overrated. They'll be saying the SEC West is down. Tennessee wasn't a quality win. And if we can miraculously win 3 of the last 5 we'll be the worst 10-2 team in the country that benefited from the worst SEC West in 14 years.

We'll end up in a pretty good bowl game, destroy some mediocre Big 10 team, put 3-5 guys in the NFL, and sign a top 25 recruting class. But at the beginning of next year the Big 10 team we killed will probably be ranked pre-season and we'll be an afterthought.

It is what it is.

I'm not sure we are a top 20 as of today. However Rutgers should be ranked ahead of us? Get. The. 17. Out.

How does he pull Rutgers out of your *** to verify your point? Really? And where does Oklahoma fit in this argument? Texas? Clemson? Hey, the only signature win Clemson has is an average Auburn team.

Truth is, polls are useless before mid October.

I have been following this as well, and it seems as though the media and our own fans make the requirements for us to be ranked higher than anyone else. For comparison, Notre Dame would fall at the other end of this spectrum. Its like the media, and our own fans have no problem ranking anyone else in the country, but when it comes to us, we have to play like a top 10 team week in and week out in order to be considered a top 25 team. Doesn't make a ton of sense to me. Just go look at the top 25 poll, and look at teams 7-25 and ask yourself if we could win that game. Many times you should say, "Yes".

We haven't beaten any ranked teams this year. Matter of fact our opponents have a total of 5 wins combined. So to say we'd beat a team that's ranked, has a winning record, or is even undefeated is getting way ahead of ourselves.

Same thing happened in 99. All we heard was the SEC West was down and we avoided Florida and Tennessee. This year, if we beat Tennessee and headed into Tuscaloosa 7-0.....according to the media, it will be because Tennessee and Auburn are down. It is going to be said.

Sutter, get that garbage out of here. Are you really that terrible at judging the level on the field, that you cannot tell if we could be beat a top 25 team unless we have played one? You cannot watch top 25 teams on TV all day Saturday and say, "Man they don't really look that good, we could probably beat them." I am not getting ahead of myself one bit. There are many teams in the top 25 that we could beat, and if you can't see that then you really have no business commenting on threads such as this one.

...it for you.

Just win your games, the rest will take care of itself. Who cares if we don't get the "respect we deserve" (whatever that means)? Let's get to 7-0 first (which is anything but a given). Then if people say we are awful or that the West is down or whatever, 17 'em. Just beat Bama and they'll shut their 17ing mouths.

This is why I said in a thread last week that even if we were to run the table this year there is no chance we would be in the title game. Although we would be deserving there is too much animosity against the SEC already and a team that the rest of the football world perceives as overrated getting a chance to play for the national title will seem like blasphemy to everybody else. I was called crazy and paranoid for making that comment last week but I sadly still have to stand by it. We beat Auburn but they are considered down this year. Arkansas is a dumpster fire no way about it so no cred if we beat them. LSU almost lost to Auburn so I am now waiting for the articles that maybe they aren't all they are hyped up to be. The rest of the world is going to pull out every stop they can to try and make sure that any SEC team has as hard a chance as possible to get into the BCS title game. I think the SEC getting both spots last year may have done more long term harm that good.
