Alonzo Moore has been questionable since MSU last year...we won't know if he is playing or not regardless if he is out there.

Basically Gerry didn't give a damn about school once he knew his draft position was solidified.

You are a senior. Embarassing.

It shows his character. He'd been mailing it in for quite some time. Finally bought in and had a good year. I suspect he'll be one of those players who plays for their contract year, but is otherwise a bust. Lazy.

You are a senior in college and fail classes because you didn't try.

Furthermore letting down your teammates. Which to me is a huge deal.

If he is not emabarassed for himself. It means he didn't care.
I could agree with letting his teammates down if this game had any actual meaning but it doesn't. This is an exhibition game. If this is the playoff or a new years six bowl completely different conversation. Even the coaches are already talking about next season. It was obvious Gerry never bought in and was ready to get out asap. If he doesn't want to be here just let him go and put a guy in that actually wants to play for these coaches.

Agreed. Unacceptable-- he better blow up the 40 yd dash if goes to combine. Just curious- when was the last time a senior starter was ineligible for a bowl game?

Wow. It's called responsibility. You make excuses for him and give him an out. I don't think he knows what is right and he needs to make every effort to fulfill his obligation to his teammates who have worked for this "team." Do you not seriously see this as a problem that keeps people, groups and teams from being successful - it is about the higher goal, the guy next to you, the team, not self.

Being ineligible for a bowl game would seem to hurt his draft stock - teams will take a flyer character-wise for supreme talent, Gerry is not one of those supremely talented guy. Very talented, but not superman. Too many guys have a similar skill set.

Anyone making excuses for him has no room to say anything when players from other teams don't go to classes all semester. You are all up in arms when it happens somewhere else. Excuse it all day, but it is a black eye for the University to have allowed him to continue playing if he wasn't attending classes. I hope MR never lets it happen again, no matter who it is. Plus, the failure to remain academically eligible will negatively impact the university's APR score. IMO, it does say a lot about who he is as a person and a leader (or more specifically who he isn't) - but that's just me. We will be a better team next year without him and a few other (not all) of this senior class around.

Nate has exhibited tool-like behavior more than once. He needs to grow up.

No one is making an excuse for him? The dude didn't like these coaches and wants out. Better to get that out of the locker room. At the end of the day your only responsibility is to yourself and your family. When he gets drafted and sign a 7 figure contract you think he'll be worried about this exhibition game?

WTF are you talking about? He's a senior captain for crying out loud! He should act like one a be a good example to all those younger players in the program. Pissing away his grades is just idiotic!

So then Collins and Valentine must be idiots too? Shouldn't they have stayed to be a "good example", they pissed their educations away too.

Gerry draft stock just went down and with it a lot of $$ (you know, the thing that is most important to you)

Unless your a first rounder, which Gerry never was, there's not that big of a difference in pay for rookies. He was always going to be a 2-3 round guy.

How stupid to bring MC and VV in to this.

Neither failed classes and neither were suspended multiple times.
What's stupid is all of you destroying a guy you've all loved the last 4 years. He doesn't want to play for free anymore, get over it.

Count some of us as old school who consider that kind of thinking childish. He may find trouble fitting in on some NFL clubs.

No, he wasn't.

I haven't destroyed him, yet.

This has nothing to do with "not wanting to play for free anymore" otherwise, Gerry would've made the announcement himself.

You should probably give this thread a rest, your credibility is equal to Nate Gerry.

Go read the multi-page thread.

Any player that decides not to play does NOT wait for the head coach to announce their ineligible due to University rules. See McCaffrey and Fortunate.

Seriously man, read what you're trying to say a few times to understand how ridiculous it sounds.

I don't give a damn.

ASSume much?
Posting 4 times in same thread looks like you care a little. No?

Pot meet kettle. You're making ASSumptions about what Gerry is thinking or has done. Im assuming it is his life/career to make these choices without getting approval from the fan base.

With Devaney's connections to the NFL, I would imagine that he and Riley have received plenty of inquires about Gerry. I'm anxious too see what type of numbers he puts up at the combine. He's strong but will he run well? The character issues will drop him some, but the #'s he puts up at the combine will tell more about if he gets drafted or not? SLOW + CHARACTER ISSUES = NOT DRAFTED
