Riley shows again he is a pretty smart HC.

The fact he anticipated a potential reaction to TA not being named captain by talking to TA before releasing the news as well as learning that neither Frazier or Frost were captains. Talking to TA showed he understands players and the latter shows he understands how things play in Nebraska. He effectively cut off any potential distraction.

He does have a hell of an ability to beat the press to their line of questioning.

To much was read into this issue. Players could only vote for 1 O and 1 D captain (top two vote getters from each side were appointed). TA, was likely 3rd or 4th in the vote, is a leader and will show it on the field.

Riley's been coaching for years. I can't wait for this season to start so I can judge him as a coach during ballgames, but as a coach running a program, he is really doing a great job. Recruiting is looking awesome, and program management is definitely dramatically better.
