Man, that hurts to hear. My Jeep stereo went through a lot of CDs back in school, but 3 Doors Down was a staple that rarely left my CD changer. It didn't sound good when the news broke about this last year, and they had to halt their tour, but I saw a picture of him and his wife over Christmas, and I thought maybe he was going to beat this.

RIP man, and way too young

That is rough.

I sat next to him at a blackjack table in Philadelphia for an hour or two in the early 2000’s. He was there with some guy who had won one of those “hang out with a rock band for a night” contests.

Was a completely down to earth guy. If you didn’t know who he was you’d think he was just another coast rat, and I mean that in the best way.

Dang, that sucks. He was a really good dude. And WAY too young. I didn’t realize he was just 47. That’s awful.

Dang! Had no idea he had any medical issues. Saw them in Southaven about two years ago and they were outstanding! They may not survive this. Lost their best lead guitarist (suicide, I think) and now their front man Brad. I am without words. Really liked all their songs.

The bass player, Todd Harrell, was convicted of vehicular manslaughter a few years ago in TN if I remember correctly. Served a couple of years in the pen but later got arrested in MS for possession of a firearm by a felon and got 10 years. Not sure if he's been released yet. Lost the original lead guitarist (Matt Roberts) a few years ago from an overdose so the band is essentially done. They had a good run though and were one of the better bands of their era.

I personally know his wife Jennifer personally. She barrel raced and I rode bulls at the same place during the summer while we were teenagers.

The fact that he wrote the lyrics to that at age 15 is amazing. I was bumling through trying to memorize a four stanza Robert Frost poem when I was 15...
I tried to write lyrics at 15, found them in a long lost notebook about 2 years ago when purging old stuff.... let's just say they were not good.
Anyway it sounds like he was under 20 when they got big? That's incredible. What a talent, great songs. Damn.

Matt Roberts is who I had in mind. Had heard he was dealing with some personal demons and thought I heard he had taken his life.....well I guess he sort of did by overdosing. Devil takes another one from us unfortunately.

Was just scrolling through a few related videos and saw the Here Without You official video. It has 1 Billion views. That's a serious number.

Saw him at an outdoor amphitheater venue Fall of ‘24 in AZ w/Creed & Scott Stapp, crowd was stoked! Incredible show!! I believe a week or so after that concert is when he officially announced his original diagnosis w/cancer. He mentioned he had just been to a horse show in TN w/his wife the week before the concert if I remember that right and Scott & Creed had asked him to do the show w/them, he was humbly honored. It was a hot night in AZ, record breaking temps that year but a spectacular show!!! Very much enjoyed everything 3 Doors Down ever did. Terrible what happened with their original bass player in Nashville years ago. :-( Brad will be greatly missed. A great American, a great Mississippian, a great professor of his faith, Rock ON!
