It’s far from his best film but Crimson Tide is just peak Gene Hackman
First saw Hackman in The French Connection. He won an academy award for that. He was a great actor even in weak movies. I never watched him in a film that I thought he was bad.

Don't sleep on his Lex Luthor in the original (and still the best) Superman. He was the best part of that movie, and it was a great movie.

I have never been one who paid a lot of attention to actors but I have always admired Hackman. Not only was he good at what he did he also tended to do his job and refrain from running his mouth about politics and everything else that actors seem to think we should care what they have to say.

He is one of those actors that will still be "alive" decades from now through his work. He did it right.

Unforgiven. Little Bill (Gene Hackman) telling W.W. Beauchamp the story of English Bob killing Corky is one of my favorite movie scenes, ever.
He was absolutely incredible in that movie. Good ol boy come back home to clean up. Definitely one of my favorites of his career.
