Some great Saturday mornings at the studio and Monday nights at the Memphis Mid-South Coliseum in the 70’s and 80’s.
Wresting today is NOTHING like that was.

He was a lot more famous for being a promoter and booker than he ever was as a wrestler. He basically ran the Memphis territory until the 90's came along and territories all but died.

He founded CWA (which later became USWA) in Memphis along with Jerry Lawler. At one point, he was set to run WWF when it looked like Vince McMahon was going to prison during the steroid trial. He was the lead to purchase WCW at one point, but backed away after it was clear they had no ongoing television contract, he then co-founded TNA after WCW was purchased by WWF.
