When I was a kid 10-14 when he was president, he seemed so old. He was only 56 when he left the presidency. So for the rest of you out there thinking of retiring at 56. 44 years left in your life. What are you going to do with that 44 years. Sit around and drink? I’ll let you answer that.

Fair point. On flip side to that, I’ve worked with a few guys that worked longer than they needed to and either had something catastrophic happen to them or their spouse and they never got to enjoy retirement. If you have the means to retire early, do it. Enjoy life. It’s way too short.

i think I saw where he was the last POTUS to graduate from a military academy.

Not just a military man but a Naval officer under Rickover - elite distinction. My father’s best man was a Rickover commander. It set him up for life, particularly after his service. Carter was brilliant like all of Rickover’s men.

At least he's in a better place and hopefully reconnecting with Rosalyn.

As POTUS, Jimmy was a textbook case of being elected / appointed / promoted into a position beyond his capabilities.

I do think Jimmy must have visited this board at some point else he wouldn't have shared this timeless admission.....

"I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times."

Like him or hate him, it took a visionary to sign off on The Advanced Technology Bomber or Stealth Bomber as it is better known. Not only was Carter a brilliant Naval officer and academic, he knew the future of our defense was based on superior technology. It’s easy to point at flaws, everyone has them including presidents. Sometimes it’s not a bad idea to appreciate the smart and bold decisions also made in the Oval Office. You don’t often find a president having a Nuclear Carrier or Fast Attack Nuclear submarine named after them while they are still alive……RIP Jimmy.

Given the perfect storm that Carter was elected into: the economy was heading into a major recession, the Middle East especially Iran was a pile of burning hatred for anything Western and the emergence of Ronald Regan, who if he could run today, would still crush any opponent in an election. It's really hard to think of any other politician at that time period who could have done better.
