He had his legs amputated several years back due to diabetes and basically had no money... not much of a retirement plan in professional wrestling.

Correct. Lebatard had him on for an interview 2-3 years ago. It started out as a light-hearted segment about slapping his belly and then turned dark when he started telling them about his amputations and how broke he was. They tried to raise some money for him by pushing people to buy a book if I remember correctly. It was sad.
