toking it up with the Lizard King. The only other rock keyboardist that was anywhere close to Ray Manzarek as far as creative composition was Jon Lord of Deep Purple...who sadly left this earth as well a while back.
Actually, the Doors used bassists during the majority of their recordings. As far as their live act goes, you're on target. Although it showed amazing dexterity for Ray to play both the organ and bass parts, I think they would have sounded better with a bass player in the live group.
