Elite players that don’t live in Kentucky aren’t knocking down the door to play for Pope at Kentucky. Whether the NIL situation with JMI is to blame or Pope is to blame I don’t know. Probably a little bit of both which is where I lean on the matter.

Some of our fans let Cal’s last 2-3 years warp their perception of elite recruits. Does getting them guarantee titles and wins? Absolutely not, but if you have them it gives you a much better chance of winning at a high level

yeah, obviously. I mean, didn't you know Pope beat Tennessee twice AND Duke last season? He's absolutely killing it. If we didn't have Rupp's Rafters holding him back, we probably would have won a national championship.
Tom Crean beat #1 UK. And don’t forget that one seed in 2013. He just needs more time. He had something going in 2016. He just lost to the national runner ups. He needs time to reload.

Sure looks to me like they probably should have given him more time. He brought them back from stone cold dead, had them back into the thick of things and then had some bad years —- they thought they were a “blue blood” again thanks to him. Since firing him, they haven’t even been to the round of 32. Not sure you picked the right example, Richie.

I think someone asked pope yesterday about recruiting and he gave same over the top positive answer…but someone needs to press him more about this. I know he can’t speak
About specifics but it can sure be pointed out what other schools are bringing in for next year, and this JMI stuff coming out (whether it’s true or not sheds a bad light right now) combined with having zero commits….
Pope, why do you feel so confident about recruiting?

He knows, but I would love for it to be pointed out by the media that the fan base is restless as recruiting is the lifeblood of any program.

Need a life raft with you leading the charge lol
I mean, if we are serious. Some of you know Pope doesn't have the chops to coach at UK. But because of Calipari, you want that sweet, good ole boy, name on the front of the jersey, Kentucky way, back. Nostaliga hires, lets get Patrick Sparks on staff...., blue collar, lunch pail. eastern KY boys, no 5 star high school recruits, unless they're from KY, The coach cares about the program, who cares about losses, look, he stayed to sign balls and cards. It is what it is. Indiana fans still pine for clean cut Indiana high schoolers. They haven't been to a final four in 25 years. Kenny Payne is the right hire, he knows what it takes to win at UL, he played under Crum. Mike Woodson played under RMK, He'll bring that fire and discipline back to the program. Good times are ahead for IUBB....

The thing that kills me about fans that beat their chest with the Tennessee wins is we LOST to Tennessee in the biggest game of the year when it mattered most. Quite easily too. It’s like Indiana fans talking about the Watford shot when Kentucky beat them in the Sweet 16 months later.

Crean lost 14, 15, and 17 games in his last 4 seasons. Save for 2016. Missed the NCAAT 5 times in 9 years.

Oh I agree. That sounds bad, doesn’t it? If you’re thinking of IU in a vacuum. Unfortunately, they haven’t done anything since then. I actually thought Crean was a pretty good coach for IU. They should have kept him. He was perfectly mediocre for a perfectly mediocre basketball program. Now, they’ve just stunk year over year.

IU thinks they're an elite power/power. Should have kept Crean. They're delusional.

Not really even aggravated about this one.

Taylen Kinney otoh
There’s no way I could ever disagree more! Rippey is head and shoulders above Kinney. Not even close imo. But hey, to each their own. We missed on a helluva baller and now we have to watch him play for the absolute worst of the worst. Smdh.

We actually had a great chance with Rippey once upon a time. I don’t think Kinney ever really considered us.

It’s absolutely JMI. Collins and Stokes were all but signed until it got to the nil stuff and that’s what ended it. Holt was also likely to be here as well. JMI is killing the program.
IU thinks they're an elite power/power. Should have kept Crean. They're delusional.
We can’t really say anything. Atleast im not. We are on track to end up in the same spot. Sad part is it can easily be fixed here if we could just get that dumbass Barnhart out of here. He and his shady contracts are killing the program.
Pope should've kept Coach O! Doesn't look like he has anyone that can recruit.
I’ve been screaming that since he didn’t keep him when he first got here. Letting a proven big time recruiter walk just because your ego couldn’t handle haven’t a Cal guy on staff was BS. There’s a good chance it’ll end up being what gets him fired as well. If he gets canned it will be because of recruiting.

Nobody thought we had a chance with him right? I’ve done moved on to the transfer portal. We aren’t signing anyone top freshman.
