Rita at Bronco

After two weeks into this season, I am thinking that most people will have Bronco a favorite over Rita. Rita gets blown out against Malvern Prep, while the Bronco has posted two impressive victories.

MCHS also has a ton of speed while SR may not be as quick this year.

Does SR have a chance?

Your answer is....

Bronco has never beaten Rita. I do predict we will see the debut of #6 in Maroon & Gold for this game and it won't be Brandon Bartolucci , Rob Fritz , Alex Wills or Austin Warden.

Wassup,

Who is this? Malvern Prep looked very good against SR. Not the cupcake I thought. Big QB with a big line and good WRs.

Years ago I was more of aCCL elitist who thought teams like Montini could never compete with teams in the blue. But how times have changed.

I think it's a 'slow blow out,' close at half but Montini wins and pulls away 31 -7.

Also I honestly think the teams aren't that far apart talent wise, hell Rita might have more in the box. But like I've been saying for years, coaching is what holds Rita back. The coaching is average to slightly below. Montini has a much better overall staff. Not saying Rita has bad coaches but I feel my Mustangs never completely fulfill their potential as a team.

Yes he is clear to play and that side of the field is going to be a hand full and from what I hear the DE 88 and number 6 play very well together but again we shall see.

I, too, was an elitist at one point. Losing to Bloomington in the semifinals with Kafka as the QB changed my mind on that. Maybe I should've learned the lesson with losses to Kenwood and CVS in the playoffs as well.

Never going to happen, but is there any land available west of Kedzie Ave from 79th to 111th? I honestly think that neighborhood has scared away some parents. And yes, I am aware MC has survived and been doing a great job, but there's been more shootings just at the damn bus terminal then most. LOL.

Bottom line - this is a must win for Rita. Lose and they've got 2 losses heading into a Blue with 4 very tough opponents. I think Montini at home will be tough - Montini 28 Rita 14. If so, Rita will then need to win 2 in the Blue or it's no playoffs which is tough on recruiting on the southside

Good points. If SR were to upset Bronco, I think the PC game might be the one chance of getting that fifth win. We'll see what happens this Friday.

That 03 year I dont think Ive ever invested more "heartwise" than I did that year into a high school football team, even though the chances of us beating Caramel that year were slim, watching Wade was very fun.

But my point is even if the area has scared some parents away, I still think that Rita gets more than enough recruits and they should have more to show for it than what they have had in the last 10-12 years.

How do you figure that SR beating the Bronco would be an upset?

The Bronco has never beat Rita ever. The Bronco has never defeated a CCL Blue team ever. I don't get it. I understand the current rankings but at times I think you have to take a deeper look between two teams and conferences.

The neighborhood should not be an issue. Maybe if the school was co-ed as parents might be slightly more apprehensive about sending girls there. But the current Rita campus is secluded and secure. I was the second graduating class to spend all 4 years at the Quigley Campus. We were routinely teased by the upperclassmen for being soft and not experiencing the charm of the 63rd Street campus. 63rd and Claremont was a very rough neighborhood by the time SR moved, and unlike quigley, the 63rd street campus was in the middle of a neighborhood and surrounded by housing and the gangs. It was very much like MC in the 60s and 70s, and you had to be a tough kid to go there by the mid to late 80s. Lets face it. It was a different era in the 80s. Not sure it was better, but boys were tougher and fist fights were much more common. I think they took it as a "badge of courage" to go to school at old St. Rita. Again, today's era is probably better and less testosterone-filled machismo, but no way today's kids would ever go to 63rd and claremont. I think the current Rita campus and MC are both pretty isolated from the surrounding neighborhoods and very safe/secure campuses.

Plus, SR offers school busing that wasn't available when I went there. We all had to take the Western Avenue or 79th Street bus. Now, SR picks up most of their kids so any potential problems at bus stations is averted. SR's biggest problem is that all their historic feeder grammar schools are gone, as are most of them around 79th street, such as St. Thomas Moore and St. Denis. Beverley is historically a MC neighborhood, and Mt. Greenwood is historically BR. Garfield Ridge is historically St. Laurence. MC has the most loyal alumni base, and their athletics are as good as ever, but I think they have some of the same concerns as SR. Though they are actually in a better logistical location (off Lake Shore Drive) to attract kids from the northside of the city and from Indiana.

As for the other point, I agree about Rita's coaching. I am a huge Kuska fan, and think he is a wonderful role model for the young men, and I like his toughness. But they definitely should have won at least one more title with all the talent he had. The one year (I think it was 04) where he lost twice to MC with Weyer was inexcusable. I was also a big Wernet fan personally. But his coaching cost SR at least one state title. MC simply outplayed SR in 88, but it was inexcusable for SR not to win the 6A title in 89 as MC was in 5A that year, and that Rita team was loaded and tough as nails. They probably should have won it in 94 as well after beating MC in the playoffs for the first and only time I believe.

I don't think history has anything to do with this. If Bronco has the talent and the means to defeat SR this year, then Bronco is the favorite.

Edgy has Montini rated higher than Rita for a reason; he's very good at these things, so I am taking his word for it.

DOS has a pulse on these things as well and he thinks Bronco is going undefeated.

Speed, speed and more speed. Bronco coach has mentioned that this year's version of his team has plenty of it and he's quite impressed.

Two solid victories against two great programs with solid teams this year. A lot of people think SR may not win a CCL Blue game this year, indicating a "down" year.

Wassup, Emillika, and MCHS,

First off regarding this thread I feel that Bronco will crush Rita, no doubt in my mind that Rita is the dog in this game and I'm thinking by three scores i.e. Montini -17. This spring one of you guys, I can't remember which of you, came out and said you didn't appreciate having kids on the team that transfer with issues. How do you feel about the kid involved in the Park Ridge assault being a significant contributor to this year's team?

thos former CCL elitest....I don't think there is reason to apologize. For years, it was the DVC and CCL. TImes changed and there are just more better teams now.

jwar,

I think this will be a good game and the winner will win by no more than 3 points. I never said anything about the transfer kids with issues before as you put it. I do believe people should be given a second chance, and what they do with it is up to them. Hopefully that second chance and new environment is used in a productive way. That's all I am going to say and will not discuss it further.

This thread is about what team, Rita or Montini, is favored to win and why. It is not about a thread that was flushed down the internet rabbit hole last spring.
I thought the question was relevant as one of the Bronco faithful posted this comment back in the spring. Wassup thanks for the truthful answer and I agree 2nd chances are important in life, 3rd, 4th, and 5th chances a different story.

Broncoman, yes it is about who will win Montini or Rita, and like I said I believe that Rita will get light up. That said Wassup opened the question about transfers when he started talking about #6. No issue with #6 at all as I agree kids should get a second chance, but there is another on the team that is a different story and the reason for the question as claims are he's making a "BIG" contribution to the success of the team. I think therefore the question is relavent to this thread.

How someone "feels" about a particular player attending and playing for Montini is not relevant to this thread. If you feel strongly about the issue of who should be able to attend Montini, give Montini a call and discuss this with Coach Andriano. You can speak to him about your concerns.
Time to move on.

If you look at though the Blue has 3 titles last 3 years in PC MC twice and LA has been to title game 2 of last 4 seasons and are bumped to 9A. Everyone has had Rita last in the Blue since last Fall. In recent years vs Blue Montini got dominated last year by a 1-3 Rita 21-0 and LA beat them bad twice in '10, '11. The 1 thing Rita has going in their favor is they are getting Montni after 2 physical games. Not sure it is a blowout but Ill say Montini 27-13. It is too bad Montini declined being in the Blue this year coulda gone 2-3 this year.

on a more relevant note. Bronco beats the Stangs by 2 td's. Bronco learned a lot from the Stang's stampede over them last year. Also, no one will be able to tell the difference between the two school's fight songs. weird that they are the same, music, that is.

pssp, I think 10-14 should be the final margin for MCHS but ST Rita will be a desperate team lose and Playoffs will be unlikely if not impossible. Teams with their backs against the wall with nothing to lose can certainly pull the upset. Rita's style is also one that is suited to defeating Montini, power running and eating up the clock. Bronco's early success should see them confident and hopefully not cocky (see Sycamore Semi 2012 for point A, 2013 5A championship for point B)

I think bronco is smarting from last year. I thin last year they thought they would win, and got completely schooled. I,would be very surprised if they approach Friday's game cocky.

I don't think they thought they would "just win" last year. St Rita took it to them and won. The weather was not in the Broncos favor but that would be a cop out. St Rita was the better team that night.
