Rock-Tom-Marica-CPASteve?

Would love to hear a recap of this game. It seems as though Boylan stood "toe to toe" with Rita in the first half. Did any lines dominate?

Question: where can I get to watch the replay of the game? Does the site through MaxPreps allow that?

NFHS has the replay. Sterling hung in there with some nice drives in the first half. The Rita INT before half was killer. Second half was all Rita.

defense stepped all night as the O struggled early. came up big turning a Boylan KO return and blocked punt deep in SR territory to 0 points. #25 did big things on O-D-Special teams....#35 did #35 things Soph QB struggled with over throws and had one interest pick, #14 replaced him and threw a 60yd plus completion. Receivers for SR need to take another step in dekalb, lack of speed showed a but, but they still made the big play

Recap:

Great crowd, great atmosphere.

Junior Kyle James #25 played a phenomenal game offensively and defensively. I haven’t reported much on him this year and that’s my fault. He has been solid to great all year being a dangerous 2nd option on O and playing not only a great centerfield, but his open field tackling and hitting is as impressive as I’ve seen from a DB in my short 40 years of watching HS football.

I’m not going series by series. It was a tale of St. Rita making big plays on offense (and the KO return TD knockout punch by Kaleb Brown) and St. Rita’s D stiffening on some excellent Boylan chances.

Both lines did good work for both teams. Teams just have to take advantage of St. Rita mistakes if they make them because a big play is always around the corner.

The QB situation got very interesting but a very good situation from a team standpoint. The Soph tried to force throws that Boylan intercepted. Junior QB started the second half and started it with a big keeper. Both QBs have to run more because it will keep Ds honest and they are both great athletes that I think running will calm them down. Either way, 2 strong options from 2 great teammates with one goal in mind.

Defense strong again especially with some of the short fields they had to defend. Hall, Gaughan, Milton, Harris, Hixson, Wojcicki, Norred, Lias, Flowers, Wilson, Larkin: Take a bow.

Question: Since I’ve been amazed the last two years, what is it like seeing Kaleb Brown live for the first time?

K. Brown is unreal. Speed, power, vision, and toughness. He's a threat go the distance every time he gets the ball.

Kyle James is a very talented football player. If not for Kaleb Brown he would be the featured back. He would start at RB at all but a handful of other teams. He and local grade school teammate Henry Wilson will be major contributors again next year. Kaleb is being recruited to play WR in college. I could see some formations next year with Brown playing WR receiver on one side, Wilson on the other, and James at RB. Brown will still be the featured RB but they could save some wear and tear on Brown w/o taking him out of the game.

Tale of two halves yesterday. If you look at the errors by both teams in the first half most (not all) can be attributed to playing against a very good team. But starting the second half St. Rita scored 4 times in 8 touches. I thought SR would take control of the game in the second half with so many Boylan players going both ways. But those 4 TD’s in such a short period of time iced the game. I would have liked to hear the half time critique by the coaches because the energy level to start the second half was off the charts. And Brown was able to rest the 4th quarter again.

I thought Boylan had a lot of quality players on the field with size at many of the positions. The RBs could take a hit and the QB had a nice game. Had he had more time to throw it could have been a different outcome. But even with his good stats he had to run for his life on lot of plays. The two intentional grounding calls killed drives. The defense again had a stellar day and came up with big plays when it counted.

I’m happiest for the seniors. After not making the playoff last year and the 1-3 start this year they were the glue that held the team together. Leading by example. And a shout out to Sr. OL Trevor Tovey. Last year he had a 50% tear of his ACL, played half the season on it until it tore 100%. His off season rehab and workouts and work ethic is how you lead by example.

To Boylan you have a very good team and had heck of a season. The loss hurts but the players have nothing to hang their heads over your team left it all on the field yesterday.

As a boylan fan, I appreciate your words. There was lots of talent on that field yesterday and the kids played hard. I really was hoping boylan would of gone 4a this year, because I knew they were low on numbers and kids were going both ways. St. Rita was fast to the ball and obviously has some home run hitters. I hoping boylan coaching staff has learned that you can’t run jet sweeps to the short side of the field and bubble screens against fast defenses. I’m hoping next year they will do some different things. For example I really liked the way St. Rita ran the wildcat when they got inside the 5 yard line. St. Viator did the same same thing against boylan a few years back with Cole Kmet. Good luck to st. Rita and all the other teams going to dekalb
