They are currently on the countdown at number 30. So far, MSU isn't on the list. That's not that shocking, but some of the teams ahead of us is. They
have Ole Miss at 42, USM at 46, Northeastern at 56, and LSU at 39. I know we will have a rebuilding year, but I don't see UM, USM, or LSU fielding better
teams than us. LSU lost a lottery guy to the pros, but they'll be somewhat respectable. UM will be pretty good, but about like last year. USM? Seriously?
Thoughts?

I think you're probably about in the same boat as us with some key losses and some good young talent.

We'll be young in the front court, but at the same time, I think this will be the first year that Kennedy gets to run the type of system he wants with a full team of his type of players (no more Dewayne Curtis's). He's said himself that he expects us to have some growing pains this year with some of our youth, but he said we're going to be really close to being a really good team.

I still think next year is going to be our year. I'm pretty sure we won't have a single senior on this year's team, and we should be again right on the bubble of the NCAA tourney. I expect us to be close this year, but I expect 2009-2010 to be our year.

Well while u wait for next year I think our team might pull something out this year.

Really Stansbury and Crxxm probably talk coaching strategies together all day. All they do is defense and no xffense.

2 years ago I thought "next year" was our year. If you're going to win anything big in basketball you have to have at least one player that "next year" doesn't apply to.

If you're just wanting to make the tournament, then yes.

Our rank in scoring offense in SEC basketball games over the past few years:

2008 - 5th
2007 - 2nd
2006 - 8th
2005 - 5th
2004 - 1st
2003 - 9th

Stans may not be an offensive genius, but he certainly doesn't deserve to even be mentioned in the same breath as Croom.

We are going to have a damn good backcourt, but we have a lot of question marks in the front court. Terrance Henry is the most highly sought after recruit we have landed since Justin Reed, so it should be interesting. I think 42 is a good spot for us pre-season.

I'm not talking about winning anything big in basketball. We're not exactly the type of program to be competing for national titles. If Kennedy can get us to where we are making NCAA tourneys fairly consistently and occasionally going on a run, that's great in my eyes, and he'll probably do that if he stays a while.

And we aren't likely to get many of those players that "next year" doesn't apply to, because we don't put enough money in our basketball program to be able to buy those types of players. We can only afford the Murphy Holloway/Terrico White type of player. Guys with a lot of potential, but not your typical one and done guys.

By the way Goat, how many one and dones did Florida have when they won their back to back titles? On the other end of that spectrum, how much did LSU get from that Randolph kid or whatever his name was last year that was a one and done?

I'll also go ahead and add that my inside source tells me that Kennedy is more excited about Terrico White than any of his other recruits. White is not a really high rated prospect, but Kennedy thinks he's going to be the star of our class. His own words were that if White will work with him, he'll end up a first rounder. I know you'll probably laugh at that, and it's probably not going to happen, but the point is to keep an eye on him. After hearing that, I'm curious to see how he looks on the court to see if he's truly the steal that Kennedy thinks he is.

It's not a decision you make. Either you have the money or you don't.

You make it sound like Ole Miss can be the best at whatever it wants, simply if you "put enough money" into the program.

Well no ****, you solved the puzzle. Problem is, the money isn't there. I guess if Dickie was still around....

Isn't that basically what I said? Maybe you misread it, but what I'm saying there is that our basketball program isn't at that level to be able to afford the one and done players because our alums don't put that kind of money into it. The money isn't there because our alums spend their money on football.

Typical Goat overreacting about nothing.

even North Carolina didn't become good just by throwing money at the program.

The reason you can't afford it is because your program has never won. Money and support comes after the winning.

Even if Crxxm learned how to buy players what would it matter he wouldn't coach them properly.

And patdog don't tell me that you watch our basketball team and not get frustrated at our point production. With the talent Stansbury pulls in he ends up letting them play clock management on offense and bore you to death. I know the all say 'defense wins championships' but offense makes money and is much more exciting to watch. We recruit the players who can put up points and we should be able to pick up the perimeter game instead of solely relying on the post play like we always do. Just like Crxxm needs to figure out how to run a passing game instead of relying on the up the middle BS with Dixon. Even when everyone can clearly see the holes our line is opening up and Dixon instead prefers going the other way.

Of course I sometimes get frustrated with our lack of offense in basketball. And the biggest frustration is that the only decent outside shooter we've had since 1996 was Timmy Bowers. But, at the same time I realize that overall, we usually are in the top half of the SEC in scoring. Whatever struggles we have offensively in basketall, the rest of the league also has (and usually worse than we do). Like I said earlier, Stans isn't an offensive genius. But if one of our coaches is in the top half of the SEC in anything, he's doing a pretty damn good job.
