from the tone of that article and those expectations for the bears this year. Hardly anything positive, which makes me wonder why they are ranked this high?

I could see USM ending up in the Top 25 before the end of the season. Not that they're all that great, but their schedule is soft! They only play 1 BCS conference team and that's Virginia, which isn't going to be any good this year. Their 2 toughest games are @Navy & home versus UCF. It wouldn't shock me at all to see them win 9, 10 maybe even 11 games. Their faithful 10 will got ape ****.

Date Opponent
09/03/11 vs. Louisiana Tech
09/10/11 at Marshall
09/17/11 vs. Southeastern Louisiana
09/24/11 at Virginia
10/01/11 vs. Rice
10/08/11 at Navy
10/22/11 vs. SMU (Homecoming)
10/29/11 at UTEP
11/05/11 at East Carolina
11/12/11 vs. UCF
11/17/11 at UAB
11/26/11 vs. Memphis

Either way, if they don't win a minimum of 10 games this season, that will be beyond pathetic. I actually wouldn't mind seeing them do well for themselves, but if they don't take care of this season then their chances in doing so in the future is not looking good.

I actually think SMU will be harder than Navy

While SMU maybe a better team than Navy, I think the Navy game will be tougher for USM because of the style of offense Navy runs and the fact it's on the road while SMU is at home. SMU runs a spread passing attack. USM sees that all year long in the CUSA. Navy is a completely different beast. USM has become a soft team. Hell, they lost 3 games last year in which they scored over 40 points! THREE! Fedora has turned them into a finesse team. I just think a physical opponent like Navy will run it down their damn throats and keep their offense on the sidelines.

Ha yea, that is pretty absurd. Only time will tell with how well they perform this season especially considering that they got a new d coordinator and are trying to mimic TCU by running a 4-2-5 (which I'm not really convinced in just yet). I have no idea how you can score 40 points 3 times and still lose with 2 of those games being by a 1 point difference and the other just a touchdown. That is just inexcusable.

You know who else ran a 4-2-5 last year? The Michigan Wolverines and their pathetic excuse for a defense.
5 defensive backs = Nickel. I'm sure it's fine against spread passing teams, but you run a base nickel against a run heavy team and you will get humiliated. See 2011 Gator Bowl.

Edit to add: I think TCU's success had more to do with talent than scheme. Jimmys & Joes > Xs & Os

with the fact that our OL was **** for most of the season, but they weren't bad by the end of the year. Losing a RG a week before the first game and then a LG 3 games later would make just about anyone's OL weak. We did lead the league in sacks allowed. Obviously that has a lot to do with Masoli, but he isn't superman. I believe Relf had more rushing yards though so I don't know what your point is. We can run the ball
