2012:
Salem 12-1
Christiansburg 8-5
Cave spring 7-6
Pulaski 6-6
Hidden Valley 6-5
Blacksburg 1-8
I didn’t go to any games from 2012 to 2019. But when I came back in 2019 and started watching, it felt like the overall competition in the river ridge declined. Most river ridge teams were formidable to out of district opponents from 2007-2012 (years I was paying attention).
Thankfully, PH, Byrd, Fleming, and LB are all better than they were in 2012 (although they weren’t horrible back then, either) but sad to see what has happened to the river ridge overall in the past 6 years I have been watching from the sidelines.
Remember Cburg being good a couple years since 2019, but in general, River ridge has seemed down.
I desire to see really strong play from all of the teams in this district again, year in and year out.
When and why did this decline take place? Or is this just the natural ebbs and flows of talent and coaching?
Maybe I have rose tented glasses, and really 2012 Salem was just insulated from tougher opponents by being in the river ridge even back then, but really felt like more teams had more “up” years back then and could really pack a punch.
Still have hope bud tolliver can make it happen at HV
