7 on 7 is not an indication of how good a football team in any way possible. Shelby gets beat yearly in 7 on 7s. They would beat Erwin by 21-28 in a real football game. Too much speed.

Go read my original post. I said the very same thing about 7 on 7. The only thing I'm defending is the scores which are the scores. It's not like I made that up. As for Shelby beating Erwin by 28, we scrimmaged them last year and went toe-to-toe with them. I guess scrimmages don't count either but Erwin has plenty of speed to match up. I'm not saying we could beat them but it wouldn't be a cakewalk I can promise you that. Anyways it's too early to get into all this BS on here because I really just wanted to post about Robbinsville who I have mad respect for. They are The benchmark in the SMC in my opinion. They very well might run my Warriors off the field in August and I will be the first to congradulate them.
I definitely think Erwin has some athletes but not as many on the same level as Shelby. They have something in the water down there.
There's no denying that. Overall they are the best program in the state I think.
I'm not sure if it is. I haven't really followed any football until the last few days so I haven't seen the schedule
How many starters does Erwin bring back? What are they looking like at the skill positions? because I know they lost some good skill people to graduation and transfer.
The Brank kid has some lower level D1 offers but he's probably a pass rusher at the next level as opposed to a tight end/reciever from what I've seen on HUDL.

Does anyone know the schedule of games for My40 this year? Or if they are still televising games? They usually have it posted by now, but I couldn't find anything on their site.
I also wonder what they will show on Saturdays since they will have a huge whole in their sports programming to fill now with the ACC games that Raycom broadcast over the air going to ESPN's new ACC channel. Probably small college games--I know they have broadcast Brevard College and WCU games in the past.
They return quite a few but losing wr Simeon Thompson to graduation and rb Don Mosley to Reynolds will be hard to replace. Brank is a hell of tight end but he will play defense I think. The big question is the starting quarterback being a sophomore who's never took a varsity snap. He led the jv's to a conference Championship but this ain't JV and the first four games are vs Mitchell, Heritage, Robbinsville, and Reynolds. He better grow up real quick. He's more talented then probably any of the quarterbacks Erwin has had in the last 10 years and that is saying a lot but he's so young. One thing about Erwin is their height. They have numerous skill guys over 6' 4". All in all I really can't predict anything about them because I haven't seen them play yet. The only thing I have to go on is a 7 on 7 which was positive but that really doesn't matter in the end. I'm excited to be able to finally see one of the better WMAC teams play one of the better SMC teams. I wish it could have been last year or one of Erwin's better teams but you play when you can and I expect Robbinsville to be a handful.
I just hope they get some good games this year. It always seems like they have teams that are really good playing bad teams. It would be cool to see some rivalry games
BD, Robbinsville could be a handful for a while but its hard to compete 4 quarters with a school that have the athletes and numbers a school like Erwin has. While you guys platoon your offense and defense and possibly special teams, our 11 just change positions. How many teams have you played lately that the same 11 never come off the field ? It catches up with you in the early season heat. We may fade some in the 4th. Just hope we can compete, keep it respectable and get out with out any injuries. Best of luck to your warriors!
They played Mitchell--another high level small 1A-- the last two years, splitting 2 pretty close games.
I've seen Erwin play for at least 12 strait years and they always have athletics lots of them they also have size and depth to me the only problem I've seen with Erwin is for the coach to figure out a way to use that talent better on defence..Erwin can score on anybody but most of the time the defence let's teams stay in the game now with saying all that ,last year the coaching at Erwin was very good. if I'm not mistaken it was the coaches frist year as Erwins coach I though he did a great job and now has Erwin headed in the right direction.it's going to be fun to see Erwin come to Mountain Heritage this season .this game could go either way I'm thinking who ever has the ball last wins in a 44 to 43 type game.I don't have any insite on Erwins team this year but I'm expecting them to build on last year's season. Erwin is one school that has the potential to build a powerhouse football program the talent is there .also if I had to bet I would take Erwin by 2 tds vs Robbinsville and that's no knock on Robbinsville. Erwin has a lot of depth and its just hard for small schools like Robbinsville and Heritage to play 4 quarters with them .and you better have at least 2 defensive backs that run at least 4.5 fourtys. if not you will get burnt deep all night..going to be a fun season.. good luck to all these kids that give us fans so much joy on Friday night's..

This pretty much sums up Erwin. As a loyal fan that has been to almost every game it could get very frustrating to see such an explosive offense that could score at will and a defense that was the complete opposite. The best thing about the new coach is he seems to put more emphasis on defense. At the end of the season he made some adjustments and put some faster guys out there instead of just big guys and it paid off big time. I remember beating Tuscola last year something like 45 to 0 and the defense dominated. All those guys are back pretty much. I really look forward to this matchup with Robbinsville. You have one of the smallest schools in wnc versus one of the biggest schools. I've come to learn that doesn't matter though. McDowell is prime example. I don't know much about Robbinsville but I have a feeling they are a ground-and-pound type team. Am I correct Knights fans?
We threw for 1,400 last year but we have a new junior qb this year. We are small for a normal robbinsville team. Yeah we are a run first team though.
Last year we were not as big on the line as other years. This year we will be a little bigger. Our line is good though.
But still top 3 in 1a...we are bigger faster and stronger this year.
I hope this is a home and away series. Robbinsville is a place I have always wanted to check out a game. Beautiful country out there.
Any Murphy fans know when and where the scrimmage is with Erwin? Is it a multi team scrimmage? Just curious.

Anyone have any numbers that might shed a little light on the word “small “ I can imagine Erwin will look like they came out of a factory, meaning all the linemen will be 6-4 and 300 lbs except for the center he’s usually 5-9 and 265. On defense the front 4 will be 6-0 and 285, LB’s 6-2 and 245 with 4.5 40 times. You get the picture. I was actually just reading Robbinsville’s rosters. Go Knights
That wasn't a knock. Just looked like it was the smallest linemen I can ever remember Robbinsville having. And probably the fastest Robbinsville team I can remember. I think Robbinsville is the front-runner for SMC this year.

If you're looking at Maxpreps roster ,that is nowhere near correct..it has past players and doesn't have a lot of current players .

The Odom era teams were definitely quite a bit faster. The eye test as well as the Robbinsville track relay results back then versus now back that up.
I can't say I thought last year's Robbinsville team was much in the speed department, seen quite a few faster.
